I would like to know if someone has removed a rear sight leaf from a yugo m48. The web sights that show how make it seem easy. I'd like to see them do it to mine. I've already smoked two screw driver bits. :banghead: :cuss:

ajax, I have completely replaced my Yugo back sight, you need to be a bit more specific with the problem you are having and maybe I can help.

Alduro im just looking to remove the rear leaf so i can install a cantelever scope mount from iron elite. I punched the pin out. Then slightly elevated the leaf. Then using a screw driver i tryed prying the rear leaf out from the rear. I figuired with the pin out that it would come off easily. I was wrong. will that info help?

One you have the pin out, hold the sight in your hand so that the far rear of it is towards your pinky and you are putting thumb pressure directly on the hinge. Lif the sight about 45 degrees, press down on the hinge and pull the sight out backwards. If any cosmoline has worked its way under the sight or its spring, the job becomes even more difficult.

It is easier if you raise the sight only far enough for the rear end to clear the handguard. Then press down on the front end of the leaf with a brass punch or the bullet point of a cartridge, and push back at the same time. Just be aware that it takes more "press down" than you might think.

It sure does. :)

Hey, as long as you have it off, you might consider putting a Mojo aperture rear sight on there. The front-and-rear Mojos and Huber trigger have done wonders for my M48.

P.S. - great sig line, ajax. :D

Like they said, it's really gonna take some muscle to get the thing pressed down enough. My leaf spring was SUPER tight.

The last two (well, only two) Yugo SKS rear sight springs I removed, I ended up using a short piece of dowel and a wooden mallet, with the dowel set at an angle from the vertical so that when I wacked it it would both press down on the leaf and send it sliding back. The spring will fly a little ways, so make sure that you know your target and what's beyond.

To every one that responded thank you. This morning when i got up i coudn't contain myself any longer than it took to feed my youngster. Took 30sec to pop that bad boy off. So i thank you all very much. Glad you like the sig ERICH  P.S. I did consider the mojo but i've really been interested Iron Elites cantilever scope mount.

I'm not sure on the scope yet. I've seen a few that have caught my eye but I stand firm on not going cheap on scopes rings & mounts. I'm no Carlos Hathcock but I like to be on the money. As for the mojo sights go I do have more than one M48. It is possible ( to my wifes dismay ) to have open sights on one & a scope on the other.
