CNN also has a picture of the hideout taken in daylight the day before.

Seems the only thing missing was a big red "X" in Christmas tree lights on the roof, and the New Year's Eve ball from time square counting down...

Buzz: Some good points, though I might quibble over whether the news must be false in order to be a form of infotainment/manipulation.

The news doesn't have to be false, but the manner of distribution must strongly tend towards manipulation, as you've suggested. Merely spinning things doesn't seem to fall within a category fit for comparison with 1984. Everyone spins things to one degree or another; it's part of human nature and the way we communicate. But if the "spinning" goes beyond that into expression of factual events via modifying the common language to suit a particular political purpose, you've got what Orwell was talking about.

This whole annoucement made me go poke my head in DU just to see what was being said about Zarqawi's death over there. Rather shocking, to say the least.

Ditto. Now I've got a headache. The whole "Zarqawi" was created by the US as a psyops ploy is really interesting. They are arguing for that in the same thread as they are arguing 1) we could have killed him in 2002 and failed to do so and 2) he wasn't a threat to the US until we invaded Iraq.

The arguments are mutually exclusive yet they are all being given equal validity (at least, up until the point I couldn't take more and bailed).

Not surprising that these folks are for the nanny state, cradle to grave, gun control and such. Oppose anything having to do with self reliance. This level of thinking shows they need someone to watch over them.....infants in adult bodies saying incredibly stupid things...amazing they can function in our society period.

For 1984 to have any comparison whatsoever, Zarqawi would have to be alive, or to be the complete and total fabrication of the gov't.
Well... he has turned up alive after being reported dead before.

This time it looks real. What I find intesting is this:

(link: http://www.cnn.com/2006/WORLD/meast/06/08/iraq.al.zarqawi/index.html)

Caldwell said Air Force F-16s dropped the bombs on the house, killing al-Zarqawi, 39, and five other people, including a key adviser, Sheik Abd-al-Rahman, and a woman and child.

Looks like that Sheik is credited with confirming Zarqawi's death: http://www.guardian.co.uk/worldlatest/story/0,,-5872681,00.html

Sorta makes my head spin.

HE IS DEAD

ABU MUSAB AL-ZARQAWI IS DEAD. THE MAN WHO KILLED WOMEN, CHILDREN, YOUR BUDDIES, AND TRIED TO KILL FREEDOM ITSELF IS DEAD. http://apnews.myway.com//article/20060608/D8I4A2980.htmlTWO 500 POUND BOMBS SENT HIS ROTTEN ASS STRAIGHT TO HELL. HE HAS BEEN DAMNED TO HELL, NEVER TO WALK THE EARTH AGAIN. I WANTED YOU TO BE THE FIRST TO KNOW BECAUSE THIS WEBSITE SYMBOLIZES FREEDOM, SOMETHING HE DIDN'T BELIEVE IN. GOD BLESS IRAQ, GOD BLESS AMERICA. MAY THEIR COUNTRY PROSPER UNDER THE LORD. hE IS DEAD, BUT FREEDOM LIVES FOREVER. LONG LIVE FREEDOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good riddance to that SOB..hes probably the one that killed Nick berg..I hope those that died because of him can rest in piece..to our Iraqi friends struggling for liberty and freedom and to our men and womwn on thefront lines...God bless you all...hopefully that guys sitting at the judgement as we speak

But after watching the nooze tonight showing the mourning in his home village of Zariq, wouldn't it be nice to drop a couple more 500#ers and get the whole rat's nest:evil:

Yeah, I'm spiteful, and you reap what you sow:fire:

I heard

that the military wiped some blood off his body before they took the picture.:) They also got his clerk and a sympathetic (if you can be to the devil himself) cleric. They have the fingerprints. The first men on the scene were Iraqi police, just who should be in in their own country. The monster is dead

I think it's just terrible. He was really a nice guy. He was just very misunderstood. It's not his fault. He was a victim of his society.

!!! POW !!!

Oh... Ah... Sorry about that. It's a good thing my wife stands over me and hits me in the head when I start channeling bleeding heart liberals...

Do you really think we ought to be starting a war with Jordan also?

Michael Berg gets no satisfaction in Zarqawi's death

In fact, he still blames Bush for his son's (Nick Berg) beheading.

When I read this, all I can do is be amazed at how deluded people can be. They must see the world with strangely different eyes.

Michael Berg

BTW, in an earlier article after his son's death, he said he is proud that his son quit the Boy Scouts because they wanted to teach him how to use a handgun.

Gotta make one wonder.

K

They teach handgun proficiency in the Boy Scouts? Really?

Anyway, there is plenty of responsibility to go around for Nick Berg’s death, Al-Zarqawi, G. W. Bush, and the Bergs themselves.

~G. Fink

Michael Berg is the father of Nick Berg, the guy who had his head taken off with a machete back on '04.

What a looney.

Hm, I wonder if Nick Berg had any training in the use of a weapon, maybe he would have decided to fight his kidnappers instead of being slaughtered like a sheep. This is a clear +1 for gun advocacy in my book.
