I apologize if this is a double post...I ran some searches and didn't find another thread on it...so here goes:

OK...so this is more than marginally gun-related but as I watched the news last night and this morning I caught several viewings of the new Zarqawi video that the talking heads are nannering on about...and I immediately had a few questions?

Where in the heck did he get his hands on an M249?

Why does he have an M4 with a 40mm grenade launcher and what appears to be an M16A2 against the wall in a portion of the tape?

Speculations as to how/why he has those firearms?

Seeing as how he has the choice...does this settle the NATO vs. Warsaw Pact arms in the desert debate?

Haven't watched the video, but there's no shortage of places in that part of the world churning out clones of everything from Broomhandled Mausers to AK47's to M16's.

Probably battlefield picks ups from US or Allied forces. Very common in wars on both sides, though they probably don't regualtions that forbidding them from doing it.

It seems to me this video was all about portraying himself as being in control of the situation. He doesn't look like a hunted man at all. Actually he seems a bit plump. He's showing off captured American weapons, showing his face fearlessly and giving a speech with a krinkov at his right hand just like Osama and Zawahri have in their videos. Of course he's posing with the American weapons to get the viewer to ask the very questions this thread opened with: where did he get them? It's impossible to know, but he obviously the conclusion he wants us to make is that he took them from defeated Americans.

He doesn't look like a hunted man at all.

I have the opposite interpretaion after only watching the first 10 mins
of unedited video. He's sadly aping the Osama videos, has to brandish
enemy weapons to portray that his group is an "effective" fighting
force  (they plant IEDs and behead civilians, they don't do
shootouts well), and he looks like he's not getting much sleep. He's
plump because he's clearly stressed and over-eating --alot.

Mark your calendar:
I'd give him no longer than the end of this year before he's found,
possibly by an Iraqi faction, and paraded Uday and Qusay style in a
tent.....Ishallah!

My inclination was towards battlefield captures as well...but what about the stylized symbolism attached the the usual Kalashnikov variants?

lysander, during the war against the Soviets in the '80s the AK-74 became THE weapon to have among the Muj. It was known as the "poison bullet" because of its alleged greater lethality.

The Krinkov became the ubertactical weapon of the day and was highly prized as many Mujis believed that it could only be procured from a dead Soviet officer. Thus, the 74/Krinkov became a mark of a great warrior.

Of course, if you ask Al-Jazeera, Zarqawi has American weapons because Zarqawi is a Mossad agent operating at the behest of the Zionist conspirators....

Does Zarqawi really exist? Could he be serving Israel, the U.S., and other Zionists‘ imperialist interests?

Dear Sheikha Sajida,

“By Way of Deception – thou shalt do war”, as ex-Mossad agent Victor Ostrovsky reveals is the official motto of Israel’s Mossad.

Does Abu Mus’ab al-Zarqawi really exist? If he does, could he be serving Israel, the U.S., and other Zionists‘ imperialist interests? One should question how come the U.S managed to capture Saddam Hussein, a president of a country, who used to have palaces with gold toilet bowls, but have failed to capture ‘Zarqawi’, a guy who would be running away in sandals in the sand. The answer is simple: if ‘Zarqawi’ does exist he would have been created by Mossad and the CIA to serve their purposes and is still free to carry out his terrorist activities.

The ‘Zarqawi’ myth has been invented to cause sectarian violence in order to achieve the goals of the Zionist Imperialists, which is ultimately to divide and conquer. The Zionists Imperialists first reason to attack Iraq was because of WMD, which by now we can all agree was nothing but a huge lie. After failing an attempt to try smuggling some biological chemicals from Kuwait to Iraq to cover up their lies, they came up with another tool called ‘bringing Democracy’. This tool was going to be used to raise another puppet. After failing to do so, as they were disappointed after the result of the election in Iraq, they got desperate and, as usual, they chose their number-one skill, which is terrorism and violence. They dispatched ‘Zarqawi’ to intensify terrorist attacks in order to delay forming a unity government. That is exactly when ‘Zarqawi’ intensified his attacks.

This time they really got desperate by targeting women and children of a specific sect (the Shia) and their holy shrines, hoping to cause a civil war using similar tactics previously used all over the world and throughout history. Another simple way of understanding these Satanic methods is to see who is benefiting from these actions.

Terrorist Attacks in Iran

Iraq is not the only country who is their victim. Bombings in Iranian cities, including the recent bombing in the south-western city of Ahwaz on January 2006, were also another example of false flag operations aimed at causing conflict between sects in that country. Later, an investigation by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) found that British agents were the root causes of such barbaric methods. Thanks to them for unearthing the truth. Most of the time such investigations are blocked since the investigators are part of these criminal activities.

Egypt’s Election Manipulation

In Egypt yet another false flag operation happened in Cairo April of 2005, right before the election. Right after it Hosni Mubarak’s regime started to crack down on Islamic parties who were his opponents. He did in fact benefit from these circumstances. Could he have been orchestrating these actions with the help of Mossad and the CIA?

The M16s are easily had in the middle east, as the israeli army use them. Palestinian gunmen use them often as well. Like anything else, they get pilfered from the Israeli armory, and sold to Pali's.

The M249 is made in belgium, and could have been stolen from another nation's armory, or part of an illegal arms shipment.

So far in the sandbox, at least 10-12 USMC scout snipers (three teams) have been ambushed and wiped out, according to the public news services.

All usable gear carried by these guys was spirited off by the terrorists. Said terrorists have made videos showing off their loot, to include M40A3s, M16A4/203s, M249 SAWs, and other comm and NVD items. :(

These scout sniper incidents are in addition to other ambushes of Marine units during the first drive to Baghdad, and later action in and around Al Anbar province. I am sure the Army has also had their share of tragedies (e.g., "Jessica Lynch" convoy ambush).

He, OBL, Saddam all should (have) been dealt the same lot in life-to be identified by analyzing the squeegied goo from a local rock somewhere in that godforsaken desert.

I hate to think about how much equipment we have lost over there....most likely a battlefield pick up. But there are other possibilities as those weapons are sold on the open market.

Hoax...

Call me crazy...but I am starting to think this guy is a hoax. Who gets obese during a war? Are there KFCs over there that he is eating at? One minute he covers his head before cutting off some poor guys head and now he prances around like Rambo during an action movie scene. It's like he is the bogey man.

Remember that movie with Kevin Spacey "The Usual Suspects". He is like the Kieser Sosay of Iraq.

Guns are Chinese ripp offs.

Zarqawi and his men are extremly good at ambushes and other gorillia warfare tactics. Whoever says there not is being naive and listening too much to Fox News and other Media. They have decimated US soliders in close city fighting. Even with our advanced tatics, weapons and armour, the terriost are still master s at street fighting. Yes the US will most likley win the battle after calling in heavy support but will loose quite a few men in the intail ambush.

What?!

Granted, the insurgents haved killed a good number of our guys and caused us a lot of heartache, but they arent "decimating" anything IMO. Getting decimated would mean we're losing entire platoons at once.. that isnt happening.

That was what I was getting at...why use the equipment of the infidel when there is such a strong affinity for the Kalashnikov gear? (Other than to show us all that you have acquired some US gear).

Who's the target audience? The West...or local potential recruits?

LOL? Really, I don't know whether to laugh or scratch my head.

Actually, it would mean we were losing one out of every ten men...

Wouldn't it really mean we were killing one out of every ten for disciplinary reasons?

Utter bullcr@p. I've been on the ground and the majority of casualties
are IEDs. I was on the MEDICAL end of things and I know exactly what
was hitting our people.

There's plenty of food for people with $ or willing to take it by force --Z would
be the latter.

My immediate assumption was that he's displaying captured U.S. weapons in order to give the impression that it's no big deal for the muj to roll up an American patrol and pick up their gear.

Palestinian or Chinese M16s? Come on guys, Occam's Razor here: in a country with 130,000 U.S. troops stationed at any given point in time, is it that unbelieveable that at least a couple SAWs have been looted off the dead or stolen by contract workers on a FOB?

Regarding "who gets fat during a war?": this is Iraq, not Darfur. Yes things aren't quite up to Switzerland levels, but there aren't exactly starving bodies sprawled in the streets (shot bodies, sure...). Iraqi Bedouins I worked with were quite busy _exporting_ food, since Iraq-bred sheep fetch a great price from the wholesellers in Amman. Heck, I've seen Iraqi truckers and carpenters with big guts hanging out; carbs are cheap.

Long/short: I have zero problem believing that a high-ranking member of a resistance movement could manage to get his hands on a captured M249 LMG and be in plentiful supply of flatbread and hummus (good cigars, Lebanese whiskey, roast lamb with every meal).

Flights of fancy can be a fun discussion exercise, but c'mon fellas...
