Zastava M70 Question

I've been looking for a relatively inexpensive hunting rifle, but I want it to have iron sights as well as being able to add a scope. The Zastava M70 fits the bill with offerings in 270, 7mm08, and 30-06.

My question is why does the 270 and 30-06 versions have a 5 round capacity, and the 7mm08 only have a 3 round capacity? It doesn't make sense to me. Does anyone have any idea?

There is a spacer in the mag to accommodate the shorter rounds, at least that appears the case in my Zastava 308 vs a buddy’s interarms mark x 270. Not sure why it cuts capacity.


If you can find irons sights mine is lacking them, let me know where you found them.

I have the m70 full stock in 308 and it holds 4+1. Or I should say it's supposed to hold 4+1. I would think capacity in 308 and 7mm 08 would be the same... It will work and feed them properly but I have found that you need to be much more meticulous when loading then what is usually required with most rifles. I have loaded 5 in the magazine and it fed all 5 but the first round was a little sticky. The magazine is the worst thing about this rifle in my opinion... It does get a little better with use... The follower also flops around too much in the mag well, needs to be positioned before loading.

I don't know where to find the sights, the one I'm looking at comes with iron sights.

I had a 270 a while ago. Sold it off when $ was tight. Kind of want to pick up one this go around but the shorter barrel (22 vs 24 inches) kinda puts me off. On the other hand, at the price, why not?

Spotted this at my local Theissen’s, not sure if you have one near you. Not a Zastava but the Ruger American in .270 on sale. Were it not for my current caliber footprint I’d have jumped. Still tempted actually, but just bought a new stock, recoil pad, magazine, and muzzle brake for my 6.5 Ruger (and 4 other rifles in the past 7 months).

And I’m only noting this for price consideration.
