I own an M57 Tokarev that I love to death. Fun to shoot, the recoil isn't too bad, and it breathes like a dragon. I would love one in a compact/commander form. I figure since the M88 evolved from the M70, which itself evolved from the M57, that I could take an M57 barrel to a gunsmith to be modified and fitted to an M88. Kind of a stretch, I know, but imagine the muzzle flash on the sucker!

I was also thinking about blueing the barrel of both pistols. Good or bad idea? Thanks everyone!

Maybe, maybe not....

I think it's easier to find and use a barrel chambered 9x19 in a pistol originally chambered for 7.62x25mm, than the other way around. You might be asking a lot of a pistol built around a shorter round to house, feed, and withstand the stresses of the larger one.

I do agree that there would likely be a very impressive muzzle flash from the abbreviated barrel, if the longer round could fired from it. On the other hand, velocity and perhaps accuracy would likely suffer.

If you are a reloader, you might consider concocting some 9mm reloads, using a slow-burning pistol powder, such as Alliant Unique, or BlueDot or AA#7. Each of these should be slow-burning enough to give you all the muzzle flash you'll likely want. In addition, a projectile weighing 1/3 more than the 7.62x25mm pills will still leave the muzzle with enough velocity to not be useless.
