Anyone familiar with that musket.Found one in a shop at home.Need another .58 like a hole in my head. But ya'll know how it is,I never had one of those

I have one but can't yet say I'm completely familiar with it. I've fired some 50 rounds of .570 prb with a 0.010 lubed patch over 60 gr ffg Goex. Excellent grouping at 50 yards, but 6" high. Have not taken the time to work that out. How can I help?

I have one, too. Mine is a Euroarms of America import & I've been shooting it for over ten years now. I use it in MLAIC (Int'l. Muzzleloading) competition, & it is a very accurate rifle. I use a heavy (612gn) Minie sized to just under bore size with 55gns of Goex 3Fg. I also have an original Remington-made Model 1863 Contract Rifle aka 'Zouave'. I haven't shot the original a great deal yet, but so far it looks like it'll be a shooter as well.

I just wanted to know what other shooters thought of the musket.I have several replicas so i'm familar with muskets, just haven't shot one of there. If it's still in the rack when I get in from this trip,I think I will take it home.

I have one that was a kit, I bought at a Sears parking lot sale years ago, right now its apart again for new bluing on the barrel and a stock refinish, good shooter though.

These are preferred guns among the N-SSA shooters of the 1863 Remington AKA the Zouave. The workmanship is generally considered to be much higher grade than the average Italian repro. It takes much less tunig to make it a great shooter. I have owned several and have let them go to new shooters on the team.

It is not made anymore so it is generally considered a keeper.

Not sure of this, but some folks I trust think the "Zouave" title became connected to this model as part of the Sears marketing campaign in the 1960's and 70's. Since the gun was only issued, if at all, in small quantities and no reference to Zouave appears in the official records of any Arsenal reports, this seems logical.

If anyone else has other information, I would like to hear it.

I still have my paper work (owners manual) from Sears the one sheet does say is a Zoli and instruction were printed in Italy.

The Zoli Zouaves are more sought after for all the above reasons. The barrels are heavier than other .58s. Mine has taken two deer.
