These are the sights that attach to the front sight and give a crosshair effect. While that works for the front sight what do you do for the rear sight? Anybody know?
Use the original rear. Most of us drilled a peep hole in the fall lead and the crosshair sniper sight usually lines up the horizontal wire with the top of the front sight. I have never found a use for mine.
It's interesting that on the Zouave, the patchbox recess is cut for the accessory sniper sight. That's because when the rifle went into production (1863), patched balls were no longer being used -- the ammo was exclusively paper cartridges. Compare the larger patchbox on the 1841 Mississippi rifle. That one was designed for patches.
