Walmart had a sale on some ammo they stock today. The good news is they actually had a sufficient amount of 22 LR to sale so that more than five customers could be satisfied!:)
They also had a special 20% discount off the regular price of their ZQ1 ammo. The 5.56 x 45 and 7.62 x 51 are made to NATO specifications. Has anyone shot this ammo and can you provide a performance report? It seemed like a good buy.

Glad to hear that. My local Wal-Mart had a bunch of Federal .22 LR boxes of 50 in. Hopefully things are changing.

As for ZQ1, I've heard varying things about them. I'm sure it's just fine for range fodder though.

I used it in 5.56, it seemed good. The box says zqI but the headstamps have MKE stamped on them.

I used their 5.56 in my AR and it ran without a hiccup. We didn't test for accuracy, it was just my nephew and his GF (from NYC) and they just blasted away at a target. Lol.

This ammo is good to go! Shoots MOA or better in my 18" 1/8 Rainier Arms 223 Wylde barrel. The "MKE" stamp is because its Turkish.

I made an ~10" group at 990 yards with the 7.62 stuff a few weeks back with a CZ550 American.

Probably best to skip the ammo at Wal mart. There are better choices elsewhere. Walmart is being greatly affected overall by online sales People find it more convenient to order online and they oftrn save money. In the long run if you do all your ammo purchases online you will save money. This is partly due to the fact that you wont be tempted to buy unrelated items on display. Its also partly due to the fact that sales are available online from time to time. Encouraging competition is always a good thing for the consumer. The end result of mindless repetitive patronage of a single large retailer is lack of choice and lost savings opportunity. Wal mart has been downgraded by analysts who have said that in the next ten years it is going to "a very dark place" due to online competition. Research it. http://money.cnn.com/2014/07/30/news/companies/goldman-walmart-downgrade/

ZQ ammo is perfectly decent NATO spec stuff, and pretty much the best price you can find right now on brass cased & boxer primed ammo. I caught their sale yesterday, me and a couple other guys pretty well cleaned them out of 5.56 at 26.7 cents/round. Seemed like most everyone else was after the rimfire stuff anyway.

I've been buying a couple boxes of the ZQ 7.62x51 every time I'm in the store. With a regular price of $0.50/rd, it's still the most economical option we have.

ZQ seems to be of at least the same quality as Federal or PMC bulk stuff.

I don't even know where to start with this, but I can sum it up in one word:

WRONG.

Sounds to me like you have an axe to grind with Wally world. If you dislike the company, fine. But don't support your position with demonstrably wrong conjecture and hyperbole.

Nothing different about the name brand ammo on Walmart shelves than the name brand ammo at the LGS or online. It's not like WMI has a private ammo label, and despite rumors, they most certainly do not get second-rate or rejected products. Their prices are so low because they have that kind of buying power as the single largest retailer in the world. As well, to think that online shopping is going to create "a very dark place" for this retail giant is just plain silly. I mean, you do realize that Walmart.com is an ONLINE RETAIL STORE, yes?

WOW, its $0.75 per round here in WA. Thats why I wont buy it, not when Federal is available for $0.65 ea.

As for Walmart, they are a truly American business. American owned, American operated company making billions on goods made of the blood/sweat/tears of various foreign countries populace. Whats not American about that?

This is false. I can buy 7.62 Nato ZQ ammo at my local WM in Pullman for $0.50/rd before tax, and 5.56 for $0.33.

Good luck finding sub-MOA-guaranteed ammunition for less than that, even online. Also, with shipping costs I have found that buying ammunition online is frequently more expensive than buying it in a brick-and-mortar shop.

The M193 equivalent was making consistent hits on a 14" plate at 500 yards out of my BCM upper. That's typical for M193 spec ammo out of that particular gun.

The M80 ball equivalent that I used was a joke. Out of my M1A, it laid down 6" 5-shot groups at 100 yards. Switching to Federal Powershock 150gr JSPs resulted in 1.7" 5-shot groups some 15 minutes later. Oddly enough, people who I trust have posted vids of honest 1" 5-shot groups at 100 yards out of bolt actions. Go figure...

I won't be buying it unless its cheaper than domestic offerings.

I bought quite a bit of ZQ1 7.62 ammo this weekend, priced at 20% off the sale price of $9.97 per box of 20. That figures out to just under .40 per round, an excellent price. I challenge anyone to show me where I can buy brass cased reloadable noncorrosive 7.62mm ball ammo for 40 cents.

It's pretty good in my FAL. I got under 3 inch groups at 100 yards today even with a really good wind. I'm very pleased with it, and it's boxer primed and noncorrosive. The brass is worth about 15 cents by itself, so that nets the cost of the ammo to 25 cents a round. I'll buy this stuff all day.

i can buy that for 9.99 a box before tax at MY walmart. thats cheaper then military surplus......

and regarding walmart. most of the articles youve been seeing for the last 2 years have been written by companies that are subsidiaries of companies that are in competition with walmart.
thats an example why i just laugh at these "rated number pickup by XXX company" because the magazine doing the rating is owned by the car company its rating.

I bought 2 boxes of the 5.56 at 9.99 for 30 rounds several weeks ago and finally was able to test it recently. Wish I had tested it early enough to go back and buy A LOT more. It groups similarly to Federal 55 grain bulk and PMC Bronze ammo out of my .223 Wylde 18" barreled AR. If I see it again at that price, I will be buying a lot more. Works well in my rifle.

I shot some of the 5.56 ammo this past weekend, it was as good or better than any of the other factory ammo I have, at $7.97 a box of 30, works for me!

To clarify, the 5.56 ZQ ammo that I bought was was $14 for 30 rounds, which is 45 cents per round. Not a good deal by any post-panic measure. It worked well, but there was nothing about it that made it worthy of the price premium when compared to M193 or M855 loads.

The 7.62 NATO was indeed cheap, but all three boxes that I bought shot like pure garbage. Based on my experience with my rifle, it's not even worth buying and shooting at any price. If I want to get 6" groups I can do that with my AK using much cheaper ammo.

Just to clear things up, ZQI ammo is (for now) sold exclusively in Walmart stores.

From their "About" page:

ZQI Ammunition is currently importing Turkish-made, NATO standard ammunition for sale in Walmart stores nationwide.

Ask your local Walmart about the availability of our 5.56 x 45 mm, 7.62 x 51 mm, and 9 x 19 mm NATO cartridges.
