yeah, i know, the only thing more boring than shooting groups is looking at pictures of other people's groups on the internet :neener: but it beats working!

i was screwing around with seating depth and annealing and made 40 rounds of ammo to shoot in 8 groups, each with different seating depth and number of firings between annealing. so here's 40 rounds on paper from 100 yards. a fly wandered onto my target and i popped him with a round from my 3rd group.

Some of the groups are better than others, but I'm pretty happy I only had 1 bad pull out of 40 rounds. I dry fired at least 2x between shots and took about an hour and a half total to shoot 40 rounds. Nice way to spend a sunny day, though my targets are normally farther away and go 'ping' when you hit them.

The 8 groups (39 rounds) average .565 MOA. for reference, the dots are all 5/8" shoot n see

it's a 6.5x47L built by Stuteville Precision, vortex gen2 4-27x, silencerco omega suppressor. shooting berger 140 hybrids over varget

consistent as all getout, nice round groups, that's a very accurate combo you got there. how far from the lands are you with that 2.805" load?

that 2.785" group looks real good. thanks for the report.

the cool thing actually is that is the 1972nd round on this barrel. my 260AI was 200fps faster, but it would have been shot out between 1500-1700 rounds and this 6.5x47L hasn't lost any velocity and is actually about 30 fps faster than it was the first 1000 rounds

i actually have no idea where the lands are. my gunsmith says 2.805 shouldn't be into the lands, but i'm seeing marks on the bullet for both 2.805 and 2.800. for the first 1000 rounds (see my break-in thread) i was seating at 2.780 which is a long way to jump. at 2.760 none of my groups are under 1 MOA

trying to decide where to seat for the match next weekend.

btw, for that small group on the bottom right, i put on sunglasses. i was trying to see if it would help cut down the mirage, which was making my target dance all day

Taliv, I disagree. I enjoy looking other folks pictures along with their range reports. I always learn something from them, and a picture adds interest to the post.

Keep them coming

"Only accurate rifles are interesting." said Col. T. Whelen, and the rifle in the OP along with it's groups are VERY interesting, indeed!

Well done, sir.

Only question I have...was that fly moving when you hit it?

Those are some pretty holes...makes me jealous a little!

Haha no the fly was still for a few seconds. I did sort of rush it because I was chasing another one around that wouldn't stop moving.

Jim never heard of soft seating. What is that?

He sizes to give very light neck tension, bullets seated way long.
Chamber them, the bullet hits the lands and closing the bolt seats them the rest of the way.
Chasing the rifling automatic with wear.

interesting. I don't think that would work for me because i need to seat to magazine length in AICS mags

Nice shooting. How much neck tension are you running now? Taliv, measure the neck diameter before and after seating a bullet with a micrometer. Whats the difference?

Nice shooting taliv but it's a shame you didn't post a pic of your rifle but just a nice earthy backdrop...

I've not annealed any of my brass in the 6.5x47L and some are on their 3rd firings. One thing I've noticed is that the primer cup is starting to bulge out slightly (I'm inclined to think it's called the webbing?) but it doesn't impact my primer seating. Is this normal for this calibre? I'm not running it too hot, I'm shooting 123gr Lapua Scenars / Hornady A-Max at 2,900fps in a 28" barrel.

Also I've just realised how tight my jump is. I think my OAL is somewhere around 2.670" because that's where my bullets contact the lands (on a 123gr Lap Scenar). I seat around 2.660"

243, thanks but i don't actually own a micrometer. been on my list for years and just don't know enough about nice tools to start shopping. I am using quite a bit more neck tension on 6.5x47 than i was on 260ai. sizing the full neck instead of half. and i went down one thou in bushing size. i've got some crappy calipers and i'll try to measure later. and update.

welsh, yeah, it will get a little more earthy when i get my suppressor cover. in the meantime, the camo isn't nearly as effective in snow:

i haven't noticed anything like that on my primers.
no idea on OAL. you might try accurateshooter forums. there's a ton of 6.5x47 shooters over there
