BBQ Guns - Myth or Reality?

I would really hate to live in state that doesn't allow you to carry a gun on your own property.

Good, because there is no such place in the USA anyway.

I have wondered if I could get nabbed for brandishing when I take my gun into the backyard to photograph it in sunlight.

My wife's boss (a lawyer, BTW) invited about 15 people to his hunting cabin a couple months ago. Cabin? It's a 3 bedroom home on 400 acres he owns. Has a bunkhouse out back that can sleep 20 extra quests.

He did not specifically say to bring any guns but I know this guy. Those 400 acres are his private hunting reserve. I took along a couple pistols (including my BBG) and he broke out a 22 rifle and an M1 Carbine.

Everybody did some shooting, including folks who had never held a gun before. They had a hoot.

Here's what I took along. The S&W is my BBG.

Just say you thought you heard a black bear tearing into your shed.

Also, I think you would be okay having one in your own back yard (with a fence), unless you are the kind of host that like to call the cops on your own invited guests.

I don't know when it started, but my brother and I started wearing our ivory gripped 1911's at our folk's house for "the Holidays". Both were staunch Democrats, but always supported the 2nd Amdmt. It became tradition to see us armed, and we have followed with BBQ's in the same armed fashion. Since most of our friends are gun enthusiasts, cops, or both, it is not unusual to see a bunch of us armed, and rec shooting on the back 50 (yards) is also part of the holiday tradition. Once entertained a few Russian teenagers on student exchange to a Labor day shoot. They were thrilled, as shooting guns for fun is not available so much in Russia.

Then they would really be on me.

Decorated WWII combat vet in these parts got charged with animal cruely for batting with a shovel a rat that was acting agressive in the yard.

No bringing a gun to a BBQ here, although when friends are at my house I can show them my guns.

The only fancy guns I have are O/U s . They would be impractical at most BBQs. If I didnt have a pretty enough sidearm I would go concealed. Just to not rock the boat.

InkEd- Here's the whole rig including the Buck automatic. Leather is from El Paso Saddlrey. Engraving is by Michael Gouse of Montana. I don't know who made the ivory stocks.

Every labor day, my extended family puts on a BBQ get together. The festivities are kicked off with Adults on the trap/ skeet range, then rifle and pistols competitions.

Those who aren't at the range shooting try to distract us with a water balloon launcher.

After the adults are done, the youngun's get a shot at the range, with adult supervision of course.

No drinking allowed when the guns are out, but once the guns get put away, the BBQ starts. Lots of fun and an excellent way to finish off the summer.

BBQ guns

I just carry my normal carry gun to BBQ's and everywhere else that's allowed by my constitutionally protected right... hehehe yeah rightbarf:
I hate having to transfer in the parking lot of the post office.

In years past that was a S&W .38 Police Special, Walther PPK/S, Makarov, Taurus .357 snubby, and finally a Colt Commander.

I usually carry concealed unless we are going to be shooting at the BBQ, then it's a shoulder or hip holster...

If I had the money to spare, I'd love to show up with a real WW2 era 1911 hanging from a vintage pistol belt...

I guess the friends I hang out with are a little backwards in the BBQ gun area. We get together from time to time specifically to shoot and show off the newest and prettiest toys we have, and usually afterwards we all have a sort of pitch in.

Barbeque guns in my circle have ranged from a pimped out rossi to a barret 50 BMG. (that was a fun cookout!) As far as handguns go, usually they are in the range of a mild coustom sig, 1911s of various flavors, or in my wifes case, a stainless Taurus PT92 in a shoulder rig.

I haven't been to any OC BBQs (yet) but I have been to some OC gatherings in some of the local eateries and this is what I carried. If I'm carrying it, it is loaded. Doesn't make much sense to me to have an unloaded gun, may as well carry a rock if you're going to do that.

I have always pictured a BBQ roscoe as being a revolver; something a little unique and with just a splash of panache.

Here is my idea of showing up in style, not mine but if I were on the BBQ circuit I would have to consider some stylin pieces.

As close as I could come would be my M60 or perhaps my 686 3 inch CS-1, which would need some show wood or bone grips.

If I could get some standing invitations from Forum members to cookouts in some of the free states, I could tool around New Jersey with a handgun in my trunk (unloaded) and if I get nabbed I will just cite FOPA and say I am going to a BBQ

I never really got the idea of the BBQ gun -- seems perilously close, conceptually, to such winners as pimp guns and the platinum plated, rhine stone bedazzled super guns favored by Mexican drug cartel sicarios.
