For you Savage shooters..........

My thought is once you go 6BR, the other barrels would see very little use.

I don't own a 6mm, but I've been beaten by them before.

That, I can't comment on. I only own long action Savages, with blind magazines, and have no experience with the caliber other than 'most inherently accurate cartridge ever designed' was written in more than one place, at more than one time, about that one.

6mm ballistics have a lot going for it, when you stick it at the end of that well proportioned case.. man. Those things can shoot.

Only thing I have that comes close to that consistency is the 22-250.

(Which is another spectacular round, FWIW).

If you want great groups and don't mind a heavier rifle, Savage's factory fluted heavy barrels with the nice recessed target crown are generally good shooters. I had a Krieger fitted. If the price tag and 8+ month wait doesn't deter you, I'd highly recommend them...

Eeeeee, not for me it doesn't, but the heavy barrel is better, just not for caring in the field.

Just my view on it.

Nice rifle!

I will rephrase what I said. Light profile savage barrels leave a lot to be desired - for me. We don't get to hunt with rifles in IL so a thinner barrel does me no good; my rifles are all target rifles whose sole duty is punching paper, not being packed through the backcountry.

To convert the .243 win to .223 rem. you will need to replace the bolt head,forward baffle and magazine as well as the barrel.

Thought maybe the mag worked for all short action calibers.

A .223 mag will work in the short action but .223 rounds won't work in a mag for .243,.308 etc. You will have to use a .223 rem specific magazine.

My Savage never fed well out of the internal mag, the McRee stock fixed that with the detachable AI mags. Most calibers based off the .308 Win, will use the same magazine.
