Anyone else fiddle around with their "perfect" powder measure?
Last night while perusing the Lee loading manual, I noticed that Lee recommends that manual users of the PPM cut off the lower stop tab for the throw lever, allowing the powder chamber to go completely vertical, fully emptying the...
Has anyone resharpened their Lyman's cutter head? Mine is causing the neck brass to flow outwards causing a burr all the way around the neck and making case extraction very difficult.
I've attempted resharpening but can't figure out what kind of edge will make this burring issue go away.
BTW...
I stopped off at my favorite BP dealer in Winchester yesterday. They didn't have any available in the ready magazine, but the price was quite reasonable. I understand that the reenactors shoot it a lot,but is it a bad fouler like Elephant Powder was? Fouling doesn't matter as much when you're not...
Hi gents,
Can anyone tell me the date of manufacture for a Remington Model 8 with serial number 94X (X is a number of course). This appears to be made much earlier than the Remington numbering system established in 1921 or thereabouts (the month/year code system). It's a .35 Remington.
I...
I've got a supply of .452" 230gr cast bullets that I accidentally cast in pure lead several years back. I'm wondering if anyone else has ever swaged regular .45 bullets down for use in their .44 BP revolvers? Since I already have the .452" molds, a cheap swaging die might make for a nice bullet...
Well, I've decided to torture my soul again by attempting to get my 1858 Remington Pietta copy running once more.
After a year or two of ownership, I started noticing that the cylinder was advancing past the nipple/cap notch when fouled. Then the hand spring broke. I ordered a replacement...
The State Police website for NY lists about 1.1-1.4 million "firearms" being tracked, however there are presumably many folks with multiple handguns,or even huge collections.
I've seen numerous sites report that state police pistol permit bureau number as the number of "licenses" when it...
I've read over packing.org's data, but would like to know what might apply to a traveler passing through these states. I've got a VA permit, which covers me in VA,TN,LA and NC,but the states in the title don't accept VA permits. I'm planning on getting a Utah non-resident permit to cover these...
I need another powder measure that can better measure small charges of fine grained ball and flake powders. I have a hard time getting consistent charges using WW296/H110 and other magnum handgun powders in my trusty Lee Perfect measure (it excels with extruded powder and larger flake powders...
Does anyone have pictures of homemade grips for your single or double actions?
I'm contemplating the manufacture of some homemade SBH grips, and would like to see some ideas.
Has anyone played around with compression in these rather bulky powders?
In 7mmRem Mag, the max load for this powder just tops out at 79grs. This load applies for bullets from 100grs-160 or so. So apparently this would indicate that the bulk of the powder is the limiting factor, rather than...
Now that it appears that the supply of 4895 surplus has dried up, has anyone seen any surplus powders suitable for 30/06 loading? If not, I'm back to buying canister grade stuff at $100+ per keg.
My testing of WC846 just didn't work out very well, as it leaves too much space in the case.
I was contemplating an upgrade to my current process late last night while grubbing around in my tumbler and pouring walnut media out of many little .223 cases.
What do you use, and how well does it work?
Has anyone used Midway's rotary media seperator.
I've tried using kitchen strainers...
I just picked up 2 pounds of this stuff for $12 each a few weeks back. While I've toyed with running some .44 cast bullet loads of regular black or Pyrodex through my Super Blackhawk, the corrosion factor has always kept it in my muzzeloaders. Since I don't have an inline, I'm thinking about...
Has anyone used the Lee cast bullet expanding die, or the Lyman M dies for cast bullets?
Are they more effective than standard expander die belling for loading slightly oversized cast bullets?
Cast bullets in my .45 are shaving lead up to the case mouth. This is having the effect of increasing...
Are the newer Taurus 85's (with the Taurus safety "screw") rated for +p ammo? The manual I received seems to downplay +p ammo use, even for .38's. Does anyone else have different information?
I've got a bunch of .38 loads for my .357 that are just into +p pressure range, and I wouldn't mind being...
Preference anyone?
I'm thinking of jumping into centerfire rifle bullet casting for my inaccurate Winchester and was curious if anyone sizes to get optimal diameters or just shoots as cast to maintain surface hardening.
I just saw one of these on sale for $85. Does anyone know anything about their performance? From what I can tell, they're a 209 primer based ignition system, they use a 24" barrel, and the ramrod fits into the magazine tube. I'm curious what the rifling twist is, their accuracy potential and...
I've got a friend who wants to improve his Hi-Power's trigger a bit. I'm betting that he can be appeased by removing the magazine disconnect. Can anyone recommend a link where this procedure is covered, or where Hipower trigger tunning is covered?
I have no experience with Hipowers personally...
