    45 acp reload issue

Various brass headstamps will result in less than optimal neck tension due to different wall thicknesses. I had this problem with Hornady and RCBS dies, reloading for USPSA major. I went to an EGW-U die (crimp at .469-.470) and never had that problem again.

I just ordered on for my XDs. It should be in shortly. Will let you know when I've had a chance to wear it.

    Vibra Prime tubes, extra/spares?

Here is a pic of 4 tubes I made from the two 3' pipes I ordered from McMaster-Carr. I had a 5th tube laying around. If anyone is interested in doing this, make sure you use the dimensions of the Hornady primer tubes. The black tape around the top is electric tape which acts as a spacer in...

Bullet sinking when pushed with finger?!

I reload mixed headstamp and had the same thing, it was thin walled crappy brass not providing enough neck tension. I switched to an EGW-U undersize die for all my 45ACP rounds for USPSA matches/practice. No problems since.

    223 Powder Suggestions

My RRA with a Krieger 1:7.7 likes 69gr SMK with Varget, and 77gr SMK with N135. I've tried lots and lots of different powders, so far these two seem to perform the best. YMMV

    Vibra Prime tubes, extra/spares?

The problem is, to use the V/P and the adapter with my Hornady primer tubes, I would have to bob off the plastic tip. Which I dont want to do. Thanks all for the input. I ordered the alum tubes from Mcmaster/Carr today.

    Vibra Prime tubes, extra/spares?

Anyone know if the tubes for the V/P are available separately? I've googled till my head hurts. I would like to have a few more on hand to load up and have waiting. I could use my spare LNL primer tubes, but not ready to cut the ends off them just yet.

    45ACP 230gr crimp question

I recently switched from shooting (USPSA) Bayou 200gr SWC bullets to Zero 230gr FMJ bullets. One thing I noticed, I had to crank my RCBS taper crimp down a lot more (maybe 1/2 turn) with the 230s to get the same .470 +- .0005 crimp I've been using with the Bayous. I'm speculating this is...

RCBS 45ACP Size/decap die catching on brass

My son and I shoot 2 USPSA matches a month, which these loads are for. That's at least 800 rounds a month, not including practice. No way I'm handling the brass that much.

RCBS 45ACP Size/decap die catching on brass

I've thought about the Dillon dies, but everything I read said they didnt size down quiet as much as other dies. I just got in my EGW-U die, the dummy test rounds I made up (using mixed brass that normally wouldnt hold a bullet tight enought to pass a thumb press check), had much more neck...

    223 Varget/RE 15 max load clarification

The numbers I posted were directly from the powder manufactures web sites. So I would assume the data to be good. My Sierra manual lists 23.9gr max for Varget and 24.1 gr max for RE15. Which again, is why I was wondering why the "accepted" loads seem to be above max per the bullet mfgr as...

    223 Varget/RE 15 max load clarification

I recently had a smith put a new barrel in my RRA AR (Kreiger, 20" SS, 1:7.7), and it really seems to like 77gr, especially Federal Gold Match. I'm getting ready to work up some new new loads with 77gr SMK and already have some Varget and RE15. The most common load for this combo (77gr and...

RCBS 45ACP Size/decap die catching on brass

I've tried two different styles of RCBS carbide sizing dies, and both tended to catch the brass enough to be problematic - even if I take my time to make sure the case is fully into the shell plate. I've ordered an EGW-U die (to resize thinner walled brass enough to prevent set-back), and I'm...

RCBS 45ACP Size/decap die catching on brass

Loading on a LNL AP, I switched to a new RCBS sizing die as I found it would size a little tighter than my Hornady die. Now, very often a case will catch on the edge of the die near the primer tube, and will either hang things up, or cause me to crunch the case. When it hangs, I can push the...

My attempt at a primer tube filler

Thanks guys! GW Staar, that's a great idea to add a power block. That might get incorporated into V2. :D

My attempt at a primer tube filler

After being tired of stabbing primers, and inspired by the many different homemade primer tube fillers out there, I decided to make my own. Parts: Paint spray can handle from hardware store, I think about $3.95 Lee Safety Primer Tray, PN PT1005B, $2.60 Lee Primer Tray cover, $1.99 Total...

    Caracal 9mm

I recently picked up my C model with the QAS sights. Here's a few thoughts on it. - I like the trigger a lot more than my G26. It has a better, crisper feel to it. The trigger seemed to be on par of the PPQ. - I dont care for their implementation of the mag release. The tang sticking out...

    Bulged barrel - replace/repair?

Buy a new barrel, and use this one for a cartridge gage, assuming no damage to chamber.
