Who has loaded these and how did they work for you? I just shot my first batch tonight. I loaded 15 of each charge. AA#5 6.4 and 6.7. Win 231 at 5 and 5.4. These are the 18bhn action velocity bullets. After each 15 shot string I cleaned the barrel. I had leading from front to back and everywhere in between. My barrel looked like a spider had spun webbing through out the barrel. I know bullet fit is key and I haven't had my barrel slugged to see the true diamiter. My bullets all measure .3995 at the smallest and .400 at the most. I wonder if I load some with a faster burning powder to try and obulate the bullet quicker.

I use 5 gr. of Bullseye for .40 S & W and it works great

Yea might chrono and see where you're at. I've loaded 1000's of those without much problem. Too fast or too slow will both lead.
I believe I read somewhere that if they are too fast generally you will have leading at the muzzle end. If they are too slow generally at the chamber end. I seem to have it the first 4" and the barrel is only 4 1/2 long. I'm wondering if bullet fit is causing this. I loaded at the top end of the data in Lyman's load book.(this isn't the 48th or 49th book) I will try faster powders and see if it helps.

broham, I am not seeing 180 tcbb for 40cal on Missouri website. What gun/barrel length are you shooting these out of?
Did you get the IDP #5? (.401 Diameter, .40 S&W/10mm, 180 Grain TCFP, Brinell 18)
I don't us AA #5, but for W231/HP38, I am seeing 5 grains as max for jacketed bullets on my data charts. Try loading another sample at lower powder charges (For my G22/Lone Wolf barrel and M&P full size, I use 4.3gr - 4.5gr for mild practice range loads)

I believe you are loading your rounds using max jacketed data, and that's why you are getting leading full length down the barrel.

My bad, I was thinking of the Penn bullets I ordered. I did get the TCFP bullets. I went by data I found for lead bullets in the Lyman pistol and revolver book. I stayed under the max listed in this manuel. With the 18bhn bullets and going by the cup they will handle it seems like you could just about use jacket data. By the book the loads were under 22,000 cup. I will try a lighter charge next and see what happens. I also have a box of Penn's I will try at some suggested charges I researched earlier.
