Kinda new to the CCW scene, and celebrated by acquiring a RIA 4-inch "Commander" 1911. Thanks to my flat-ass, I can conceal it at the SOB position with an el-cheapo inside the waistband holster.

I'm just curious on how many people carry a 1911 regularly through the year and the ways that conceal these pistols.

So, lets see the weapons, the holsters, and a little on the placement of the pistol on your person.

My entry:

I can't show all of it right now (mainly because I'm too lazy) but I typically carry a Dan Wesson CBOB with a Milt Sparks Summer Special IWB holster. I usually keep it at the 5 o'clock position and can conceal it with a loose t-shirt or a light jacket/sweatshirt.

Pretty much identical setup here. I usually wear an unbuttoned shirt to cover.

Alright, I'll play. Kimber Tactical Custom II with some custom work done (NP3, trigger job, some roguard on the lower part, CTG) Carried OWB in a Galco Concealable, roughly 4 o'clock, on .......some kinda Galco gunbelt, the "instructor" style, I think?

My usual assortment of pocket goods:

Bang Bang, that holster can get you killed. I had one similar decades ago and discovered the many serious flaws in that design.

Buy a GOOD, well designed holster and you'll be glad you did.

I'm shopping around atm...if I'm going to drop $50-$100 on a holster, I want my money well spent. As of now, it'll do. I'm mostly around the house, and when I'm driving, the weapon rides either in the passenger seat or under my right leg. That holster is just for "social confrontations," therefore, will serve it's purpose until I can decide on the next rig to purchase.

To me, that implies you carry the gun concealed in that holster. That's how it can get you killed. Aside from allowing a full firing grip, it'll move, shift, rotate and come out during the draw. ALL bad things to have happen during a "social confrontation."

until I can decide on the next rig to purchase.

ANY of the other holsters pictured are better choices. Milt Sparks makes a good one, as does KyTac.

I've been doing a little research, aside from starting this thread, and Milt Sparks has came up quite a bit. The intentions of the this thread was to shop around, see who carries in what type/style/design, and make my decisions off of what I believe will work best for me.

Like I said, as of now, what I have will work...due to the fact I plan to purchase within the next week or two.

Here are my New Agent and Combat Commander in D.M. Bullard "Dual Carry" IWB's. I love these holsters and the longest that I've waited for one is 2 weeks.

I carry my RIA Compact in a Beltster. Maybe not the best solution for everybody, but works good for me. It holds nice and tight and works for all size 1911's. You need to remove the rivets from your jeans pocket though, or they'll mar your slide. Mine is the 1-3/4" size.

You'll also find that most folks aren't fans of SOB carry. It's not as natural of a draw, can print terribly when you bend over, and if you were to fall on your back it could be bad news for your spine.

Colt Defender in a Comptac, Surefire clone and a Cold Steel Ti lite. Yes the finish on the Colt is a horrible attempt at polishing, that was why I got on the cheap. Doesnt bother me much, anyone have any recs for an alloy finish that holds up well? Or should I just blast it ?

An old Galco and a Bianchi. Most times, before I ever had these, a 1911 was just carried in my left waistband, butt forward.

My faithful old Colt L/W Commander. My fairly new Kimber CDP Ultra. Before that it was a rock solid 5" Springfield. I would still bet my life on that old Springfield. If I had to go on a moments notice, and could only take one, it would be a tough choice between the Springfield and the Kimber. Both are dead nuts reliable & I shoot both well. The Kimber has night sights, but the Springfield has more quality time spent. (It gives me that warm fuzzy feeling. It traveled some tough places with me in my younger days.)

Here is a picture of my Ed Brown Special Forces with my Milt Sparks 55BN that I use for CCW during the winter. During the summer I carry in a VM-2.
