I want to have a nickel or chrome slide on my 1911 and i'm looking into the most economical way to do it. Would it be easier to buy a nickel or chromed slide and then just swap the parts out of my old one into my new one or should i just send out the slide to get finished. Any one have any suggestions of a place to send it out too to get it finished?

It's a springfield GI and i'm open to suggestions on what kind of finish would look better. I'm kind of going for the duo tone finished look.

I'd just have the original slide hard chromed. That seems like a very durable finish.

A replacement slide would have to be fitted to the frame and all of the other components fitted as well...more work...more labor charges.

I ahve been shopping around, for a finish on my Hi-Power, wanting to two-tone it as well and I am really looking closely at hard-chroming the frame and black parkerizing the slide for a the two-tone look.

If you must have the two-tone appearance, it seems to me the most practical choice is to hard chrome the frame, leaving the slide black (blued, parkerized, black whatever-kote), as suggested by brickboy240. The frame is the part that gets sweat on it the most, so it would benefit most from the corrion resistance of the chrome. The benefit of leaving the slide black is glare reduction, as it relates to sight acquisition.
