My first gun was a 10/22 from my grandfather. It took me 2 years into shooting to buy my first 22lr handgun (Buckmark). Since centerfire is just too expensive these days, I've been buying and shooting many more .22s.

On order - Spikes 22 for AR
Just sent payment for - CZ453 Varmint

It's just so much fun not throwing $.50 doownrange with every trigger pull. However, I am down to less than 5k 22lr so I better get to Wallyworld. Last Federal 550 packs I bought were at $12, what's the damage these days?

I only have a couple 22's,but the shrink says I'm OK!

This is my latest 22 sweetheart. Anschutz 164 22 Sporter. The economy seemed to be a bit rougher on another than me right now.

Picked up a Mauser trainer today. Looking forward to shooting this one. I think I need to S-L-O-O-O-W down after all we are in a recession. Now if Walmart would get some 22 ammo in, I'd be all set. :)

Hi everybody, I'm Plinkeriffic and if I had more money I'd be a better 22aholic. I'm afraid y'all will just have to let my enthusiasm offset my limited aresenal and knowledge. I'm also sorry to relate that I let a good one out of my care for too long and it got pawned by a 'friend'. It was a Remington Nylon 77 (clip-fed autoloader, aka the Mohawk 10c). It was given to me by my grandfather, which makes it doubly sad, but I have recently come back into contact with the guy so who knows. Anybody got a good one taking up space?

The first gun I bought was a Browning Buckmark in '94, and I don't know what to call it other than it resembles what is called the 'camper' (6" barrel) but it has a barrel with flat sides. Unlike what I've seen in manuals it has the pin mounted in the trigger/hammer assembly and the extractor is a separate piece with a TINY spring/rod/claw assemply that has remarkable flight characteristics (can't believe I was able to find it again...twice). Anybody else know or have one? This thing is a fantastically accurate plinker's delight! Anyone seen clips for it that hold more than 12? Even with marginal care until recently it's never been a problem except when a very occasional round doesn't fire, but always has when reloaded. I think they've gone up in price since then by about 1/3.

Just got a Ruger 10/22 and am looking forward to getting the right rear sight/maybe a scope for it to sight it in properly. The rear flip-sights seem chincy and ineffectual, which is too bad because I prefer open sights and don't want to put a scope on it out of necessity. Anyone found a good open rear sight for it? Seems like I've seen folks talk about the 'peep' aperture sight, any 10/22 junkies have a word or advice?

Don't have any pictures. Could use some advice on the best, highest-capacity magazines (value? price?).

Thanks for sharing; keep coming back, it works!

Plinker,
This is one of the most popular http://www.tech-sights.com/. If you like the peep and post, this is designed to duplicate Garand sights.

I'm apparently the only person in existance who doesn't mind the stock 10/22 sight, but for some reason it works for me. I can see it clearly enough for plinking, and mine's never going to be a bench rest rifle anyway. However, a 2-7x or 4x scope works pretty well for plinking, too.

I have a serious .22 problem:

1. Stevens Favorite (1890s)
2. Stevens #26 Crackshot (about 1915)
3. M1922 MKII Springfield
4. Marlin 15Y (Kid's gun)
5, Remington 541X (CMP gun)
6. Kimber M82
7. Ruger M77/22M
8. Kimber M82 in .22 Hornet.
9. Ruger MKII standard model
10. Colt Officers Model Target
11. Colt Woodsman (first edition, made in 1938)
12. Argentine M1927 with Colt Service Ace Conversion Kit
13. Fed Ord M1911 Ciener Conversion Kit.

Always loved .22 rifles/handguns but slowly being drawn into addiction, thanks to the junkies in this forum.

CZ452 Style w/Bushnell 4-12 x 40 AO
CZ452 Varmint w/4-12 x 40 AO
Lakefield 91T w/Beeman 2-7 x 32 AO
Winchester 69a with Mossberg target peep sight
Smith Wesson 17-2 w/6 inch barrel Tasco PDP2 dot

Am now trolling the gun shops around town for old rifles, any quality repeater in excellent shape will come home with me. Having enough good "shooters", there is no rush to add to the small collection.

I'm looking at a Remington Model 504... I found one at a local shop, NIB... man, those things are sweet looking... great looking wood, very well balanced, outstanding trigger... I'd love to be able to afford an Anschutz... someday...

Cheers...

Let's see... 22 rifles (this is the rifle forum). I have a couple interesting ones.

My first gun was a Rem 581 purchased in the spring of 1968. Stolen with all my other guns in 1985 I found a replacement. This 581 had been owned by a gunsmith who extensively modified it. Cut the barrel to 20"; glas-bedded the action; floated the barrel; put weights in the barrel channel to replicate the original weight with the 24" barrel; drilled and tapped an added screw securing the action to the stock; and lapped the bolt lugs for smooth cycling. Did about $400 worth of work to a $50 rifle.

Stevens 'Lil Scout 14 1/2 from about 1915 or so. Picked it up in 1986 at a police auction for $12.50 and spent about $10 refinishing and restoring it to shooting condition.

A Martini-Henry Model 15 target rifle with a 29" barrel.

Wanted a Marlin 39 for many years but just couldn't pay the usual asking price. Got this 1956 example a couple years back off GunBroker for $165 and its a little rough but that just makes it a good shooter.

My most recent acquisition is this Nylon 66. Wanted one when I was a kid but for some reason never got one. In recent years the prices have soared on these but found this shooter grade example at a show last month tagged at $150. Told the seller that if he'd take $20 off I would buy it. Here it is.

I don't know if a man can have too many guns but I have given several away over the last year to friends and family. I recently bought a new house and the boss laid down new rules. Pack firearms into the safe, cabinet and my (1) closet reserved in my den or she will throw the rest into the river on her way to work. She will not allow anymore safes or cabinets in "her" new house. Schleprok62...I have not had an oppurtunity to work out the Anschutz 614 yet. This is going to be my 14 year old sons first firearm If I can get him off of his computer/P3 to see the outdoors. And SaxonPig...I have an identical 581 Remington which has been my mainstay rimfire for many years...great little rifle. I also have (2) new CZ 452 Americans I have not spent a lot of time with. I have to admit with a bit a sadness the new Anschutz is, at least to me, a superior firearm. Don't flame me...this thing has a trigger that defines "snapping a glass rod".

20X Lyman Super target Spot

...

you all are very sick people.

Even with an AWB i believe it would be suicide
for anyone to invade .22-country!

..imagine the air being filled with "bees"
and you just cannot see the source of it all.

... i want a "Nylon" with a pistol grip!
