Howdy,
I’m working out a deal right now which would leave me the owner of 5 older .22 rifles. Wanted to see if you guys owned any of them or have any experience or thoughts to share on them.

1) Sears Ted Williams model 34
2) Stevens 87a
3) mossberg 340ba
4) Glenfield model 20
5)Glenfield model 25

I’m looking forward to testing them all out, should be a lot of fun.

I often mention my Glenfield 25 around here, which was my 16th birthday present and first firearm. Still works and shoots great, thought I should probably disassemble and clean the bolt someday. It became rather beaten up during a farming stint after college, and I later added the synthetic stock and a new set of sights.

Thanks Dave! I have seen some older posts about your 25. What kind of accuracy have you seen from yours? The 25 I’m trying to get is on my shortlist to keep for squirrel hunting.

Strangely enough, I've never shot formal groups with it at any real distance. It will easily put 5 shots inside a dime at 15 yards, and I've shot a bunch of ground squirrels with it up to about 25 yards.

Mine used to wear one of those foot-long 7/8" Weaver variable rimfire scopes (I remember I bought that at Woolworth's), but I gave that glass to a friend for his Nylon 66 and replaced it with the big 1" Barska in the photo.

Spare box magazines for this model are pretty easy to find in normal times. John Masen used to make an aftermarket clone with an orange follower, and they turn up all the time on Gunbroker.

I think there is also an improved aftermarket trigger available but don't take this as gospel unless someone else can confirm it will fit. The stock trigger is a fairly heavy one-stager. https://www.mountsplus.com/rifle-basix-marlin-trigger.html

I believe mcarbo sells a trigger spring for them as I have heard the stock trigger is nothing to get excited about.
Funny you mention the magazines as I looked them up on gun broker and eBay last night and they are going for more than what I’m paying for the gun lol

I just restored a Stevens 87 for my buddy- one of the famous (infamous) "Click-clack" guns. This one has ALOT of round through it, feeds OK with a few jams, and is shockingly accurate.

Supposedly they are known for going full-auto on occasion. o_O

Don't overlook the normal times qualifier. Ride out the weirdness and I'm sure they'll be back down in the $15-20 range.

I just put my late brother's crappy old RG .22 Short revolver up for sale; no self-respecting dog would bother urinating on it during normal times, but my gunshop guy thinks I'll net at least $100 for it in the present market just because I included some ammo in the deal.

Wish I could help, but you would have to ask my dad that one, and he don't do the net

I had a glenfield 20 and I l loved it and shot it a lot...it ended up being given to some natives from south america in a really odd God experience back in 1998... and I have a model 25 I had threaded for a suppressor a while back... solid guns

I have owned and shot a mossberg 340BB, pretty accurate, boy scout training rifle, I was able to shoot it fairly well both iron and scoped. value is between $125 to $250 depending on condition here locally.

Buy an extra firing pin, and shoot standard velocity through it and I think you will like it.

Rimfire central is a great place to learn out old mossbergs, and probably most of the other .22s on your list.

Haven't owned the others.
