I haven't started to reload yet, but I will set up for it this summer.

Question one: Segregation

I know that you should try to keep brass together that has been fired once/twice, etc., but some of the stuff that I have is range pick-up. Some of the people that I shoot with have expensive tastes and think nothing of littering the world with free LC brass that looks like it was shot once, at least to these uneducated eyes. My own RORG I recognize, because I'm the only one that I know who shoots it here.

Question two: .223 vs. 5.56

What do I need to know beforehand about these two to get them ready for reloading past tumbling? My only AR is also my only .223/5.56 piece, so I was wondering about difference in loads for, say, recycled RORG and once-shot WWB .223 from the value pack.

Sorry if these are silly questions, but I know almost nothing about reloading.

Question one: where's the question?

Question two: other than removing military primer crimps, not much.

as with ANY mixed rifle brass, make sure you work up your loads with all the types of brass you have. don't just work the load up over max with WWB and switch over to LC and assume it's ok.

Do you go on the premise that everything has been shot once, and proceed slowly with a mixed batch, or do you split it up into headstamp specific batches that seem to be of the same use amount?

I don't sort cases at all. I clean, size, check to see which ones need to be trimmed and load. My AR has never seen factory ammo. If the LC is once fired you will need to remove the primer crimp. Read a manual and then ask questions. There are a couple of things you will need to do for case prep and you will get 100 suggestions on how to lube before sizing, and they will all be right.:D Welcome.

.223/5.45 are the same. some of the military brass has different thickness but other than that they are the same. You can't go wrong with lake city. Your RORG is good brass its just that the brits load it a tad weaker than our stuff so that it cycles their bullpup rifle better. The only stuff that's junk is once fired MG brass from say a SAW. those chambers are looser so the brass expands way to much. Once fired is great for plinking or building up a bunch of milsurp spec stuff. I only use new brass for match / hunting loads because i want that new car smell when i hunt.

I may not know squat yet about reloading, but I know a bit about ammo. RORG hasn't been underloaded compared to M855 since about '89. That's why the more recent headstamps include a (+) on it, which indicates NATO interoperability, i.e., it'll run anything in the field that it'll chamber into.

From the link:

"While the external cartridge dimensions are essentially the same. . ."

Since you're asking about cases, not loads and bullet choice and OAL cartridge length:

Watch for primer crimps, polish after the 1st reload, and you'll tend to keep them in 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th-reload categories on sight. Maybe. Inspect with bent metal stiffer than a paperclip, and sharpened to actually catch any grooves, after than and then re-tumble. The caseheads/extractor rims will probably be buggered enough by then to still keep the older stuff separated. On sight.
