$57.00 + shipping...

Is this stuff any good?

Is this a good price? If not where could I find a better price?

It's OK ammo. Service Grade, made in Korea. I've shot a bunch of it through my 1903A3. I have maybe 1000 rounds left. I think I got it for about $30 a can a few years back.

It is corrosive so clean accordingly.

The Greek HXP that CMP and J&G has is better. It's more consistent, non-corrosive and reloadable.

Eww, if its corrosive I don't think I want it...I obviously want something somewhat accurate, but I'll be reloading it after I fire it.

What would be a better suggestion?

What ammo is good from CMP?

Haha sorry DMK, I didn't see that last line you wrote :D

I'll check that stuff out.

Thanks

The corrosive part is no big deal. Squirt some Windex down the barrel and patch it through before you clean it. My '03s barrel is still as bright and shiny as any rifle I own. This would be more trouble with a Garand though as you need to wipe opp the oprod and gas tube also.

The Korean stuff is no good for the reloader though. It's shoot once, scrap the brass ammo.

They used to sell USGI Lake City, but they are out now. Most folks say the Greek HXP is better than the latest LC stuff anyway.

I guess I am just basing this on the 1000's of rds I have for my Nagants...Those bugger's are not fun to clean at all, but it really doesn't have anything to do with the primers, I just hate having to take care of cleaning my guns as soon as I get home. I like taking my time and if I'm in a hurry after shooting, I have no choice but to clean them right then and there.

CMP Greek stuff is very good.

If shooting KA stuff in M1 or other rifle with gas system, you've got to clean a lot more than just the barrel! Not worth the trouble to me. Korean PS stuff is NOT corrosive and is not too bad accuracy wise. (Is very dirty though.)

Just my two cents .. YMMV

If this is the stuff being offered by Sportsmansguide, be aware that I ordered this same ammo. When it arrived, I actually got 3 cans of Greek non-corrosive FMJ on 8 round garand clips. I'll take it ;)

Not to say that is what you will get, but it might happen

Is the greek HXP reloadable?

Gun Weilding Maniac,

You lucky dog.:cuss:

@ CMP which of the greek ammo options is the best...Some of it is 4 cents cheaper per rd.

Korean brass "is" reloadable. I've reloaded it with no problems that you wouldn't expect with any other USGI brass. Its good "range" brass for your plinking loads and I get 8-10 loads before chucking it...I'd probably get longer life with X-Dies but I haven't run any Korean brass through my X-dies yet.

The Greek ammo is also reloadable.

PS brass

I've reloaded lots of it. I can get very good accuracy, too. Haven't ever fired or tried to reload KA brass.

Yes, it is reloadable. I didn't even tell you the best part. See, SG had the cans going for $29 a piece when I ordered them. I had a free shipping coupon and also was a buyers club member... :D

------------

I believe that this is the stuff that comes in enblocs / bandoleers. Cheaper stuff is loose / 20 rounds per box.

Bazooka Joe, buy some foam barrel cleaner and squirt in the barrel before you leave the range. You can put off cleaning your Mosins for a couple of days but when you get around to it you'll need a lot of patches.

I think I heard from my buddy that in order to buy Garands from CMP, you have to be a member and that entails sending off a bunch of forms or something...Does the same go for buying ammo? If so, its not a big deal, because I can have my friend order it for me, I was just curious because I'm gonna need some soon.

You need to meet the same criteria to buy rifles or ammo from CMP.

You need to meet the same criteria to buy rifles or ammo from CMP.

Only partially correct....

You still need to be a member of a CMP Affiliate Club, US citizen, over age 18, to buy ammo.... but you don't need to meet the "marksmanship activity" requirement.

Garands forever

So tomorrow, I'm ordering this:

NLU 415-CN - M2 Ball, .30-06 Caliber manufactured by Pyrkal (Greece). Packaged 20 rounds per box, 12 boxes per spam can - 240 rounds. Boxer primed, non-corrosive. The headstamp varies HXP62-HXP80

We established that this is reloadable, correct?

I mean its boxer primed, so it should be?

Ok, so my ammo came in today finally...Exactly %15 of it is corroded. What should I do with it?

Can it be fired?

If I was able to clean some of the corroded rds off, could they be reloaded?

I also noticed some corrosion around the hole where the primers go on almost all of the rounds, is this a problem?

Edit: Upon further inspection, I don't think all of the stuff I thought was corroded actually is...What is up with the brass that has dark spots on it? Is corrosion green(ish)?
