Hello folks!

I am going to start reloading the 30 carbine. I recently bought an m1 carbine and enjoyn shooting it. I just hate buying the ammo. I regularly load pistol ammo -9mm, .40 and .45. Where is the best place to buy 30 carbine ammo

Thanks.

do you want ammo or components?

Georgia arms is as about as cheap as ammo can get if you shop around you might beat them.

If you reload pistol ammo, then reloading for 30carbine will be no sweat. I suggest getting a set of Lee dies with the Factory Crimp Die as well. Berry's makes a copper coated bullet that works well and there are others.

I cast my own and have an excellent lead boolit I use. You can find a good mold for 30carbine over at the Cast Boolits forum. But then you'll be looking for wheel weights and casting your own for all those calibers.

If you load pistol cartridges, you're not used to trimming cases. You have to trim .30 Carbine brass after you resize it. Or at least measure each case; some will need trimming and others won't (yet.)

The powders to use are W296 and 2400. And use small rifle primers, not small pistol, even though the pistol primers will fit.

Yep! The .30 Carbine brass is the "growingest" brass I know.

Thanks for your responses. I just ordered the Lee carbide 3 die set from midwayusa. It does not include the crimping die. MUST I have a crimping die? Also, how do you trim and what stuff do I need to trim?

Thanks.

Lee makes a nice little trimmer, caliber specific.
You need the shell holder and pilot to match.
I use a Forster, but also have the Lee trimmers, they do the job and are quick.

I have the Lee carbide 3 die set (wish I didn't), and went out and bought a separate taper crimp die. Regarding trimming, you go out and buy a trimmer. I have a L.E. Wilson trimmer which is one of the best, but was extremely time consuming to use until I bought a power unit that allows me to use my cordless drill with it. IMHO, trimming is the least fun part of reloading.

No you don't need a crimp die. The seating die also crimps. You *can* use a separate die for that if you want to; some people say it works better.
