Indoor Range

45 ACP
230 GR Hornady FMJ RN
5.5 Gr Unique
1.260 COAL
.471 Taper Crimp

Mag'd up fine, chambered well, shot well. Not as dirty as I expected in two Kimber 1911's. Reduced recoil.

Shot these in a glock as well, worked just fine.

As an interesting side note, caught a ricochet in the top of head from one of the other lanes shooting Golden Sabers. Always wear your eye protection. Could have been much worse, just got a plunk.

If the range you were shooting at used plated metal back stop, I would let the range staff know so they can "grind down" some dimples and make the plates smooth again.

No range report on the "fun factor"? :D

I am doing test load development with Unique too. How did it meter for you?

Well, in my lee, it meters fairly well.

Not as evenly as stick powders- but if you "knock" the VMD tube, well enough... About 1 in 10 of the drops are .2 or .3gr off.

As for the fun factor, other than the plunk, it was a good send off for a friend who is going to guam for about 5 years !

On my 16 year old Pro Auto Disk, I got it to meter Unique within .1-.2 gr variance. My initial range trip with 200 gr LSWC and 5.0 gr had all 5 holes touching each other at 7 yards, but opened up to 2 inches by 10 yards.

It was a very light test load (I know, I know ... I am the curious type :D) and I will be returning to the range with 5.5 gr loads next and probably some WSF loads for comparison.

You never know, I might learn to love this "classic" powder that's supposed to burn cleaner as stated on the bottle! :D
