I was at Academy tonight, once again drooling over an XD-45. Last month I was also there drooling over the same gun. I was broke back then, now I have $500 spendable dollars... :)

I thought the XD-45 last month at Academy was somewhere around $500, but tonight they were $578. I can't believe they went up that much in a month. The counter guy said they didn't go up.

At Sportsman's Warehouse I think they are $518. Sixty dollars seems like a big difference, especially between similar stores. According to SA's XD catalog, the 5" tactical black .45acp retails for $595, which means Academy's $578 price is damn near full retail.

I also looked at a glock 21, but I thought it was kind of ugly, plus it had a wide grip (I mean as in front to back). It was $548.

Academy also had a M1911 clone, don't remember the brand, that was under $400.

what do you guys think a decent price on an XD-45 .45acp would be?

i dunno about the price but as far as the grip (front to back) goes I know Springfield adrvertised having the smallest in a .45 ACP. IIRC $500 is a good to average price..

dang, I thought Academy was the cheapest place around here, but looks like they are high...at least on XDs.

im assuming you are in or around lewisville like myself, i buy every single one of my guns at Sportsmans, i always call around the DFW to get prices on whatever it is i am after at the moment and they are always $30-60 lower than everyone else! im pretty sure that they do price match too. im in college still and i just got a job there today, so i see my collection growing very rapidly in the near future! im not sure thats a good thing!

Paid $300 for my Rock Island and it shoots half inch groups.
No I'm not that good of a shot. A friend asked to shoot it Sunday and was amazed that it would shoot that well.

Uhh... at what distance? 5 yards? 25 yards?

Bender,
There are many good options for a gun chambered in .45 ACP for around the $500 price range.

1) Springfield Armory GI 1911
2) Springfield Armory Milspec 1911 (larger sights, flared ejection port)
3) Springfield Armory XD45
4) CZ-97B
5) Glock 21

I've heard good reports of the SA GI/Milspec 1911s. But I'm sort of biased towards the 1911 platform. If I was in your position, that's what I would go for.

Definitely take a look at the CZ also. Great quality and very underrated.

Good luck!

$518 at Sportsman's sounds fair when you factor in shipping and FFL fees looking at online prices. Use the $60 saved to get ammo. The XDs are getting more and more in demad every day and prices are subsequently climbing. If you have the $500 to spend and want and XD I'd go for it. I have no experience doing business with these folks, but I use their site to ge a good idea on SA pricing; http://www.pdhsc.com/showcase1.htm. If you aren't dead set on an XD I like the SA GI 1911, also in the sub $500 price range. They are a very basic 1911, but a very basic 1911 is still a heck of a pistol. There are other options as well. The best thing is to stick with a reputable manufacturer and handle a bunch of pistols in 45 ACP to see what fits your hand.

yeah, but I have looked at these in the company's catalogs, and the prices are outrageous... so that's what I was asking... what can you actually get for around $500. CZ's catalog lists the 97B at over $600, same with Springfield armory.

The last time I checked, Academy sells the 5" tactical for $578, not the 4" service, FWIW. It's still not a great price but it's a fair one. The 4" 9mm XD Service is like $510 or so, so the 5" .45 being $578 isn't too far out of line.

I give Academy a chance at my business and I've bought a gun there before, but at some of their prices I much prefer to try to go to local merchants of death where I'll get better treatment, service, and support.

Some of the gun stores will have them cheaper - try a Gander Mountain if there's one near your area. The GI 45s are very cheap, nice items.

Ruger P90, P97 (out of production, replaced by P345, but should be readily available) and P345. Any of them should come in well under $500.

Bender, I would not pay more than $500 for a new SA GI. $500, or maybe a bit over for the Mil Spec or the XD45. You'll just have to start calling around to local shops and see what they charge bro. Good experience with the GI model I bought used (previous owner had upgraded the sights) would make me lean toward the Mil Spec with it's better sights & lowered ejection port if I wanted a 45 ACP pistol at $500 to $525 max. price. In my experience nice clean used guns have been a tremendous value as well.

Those prices in the catalog or MSRP prices. The street prices in stores are usually less than what they list in catalogs.

Check out www.sportingarms.com as a start to your price search. :)

yeah, I'm tempted to get a basic mil-spec .45 from whatever company... I mean, the design of the M1911 is a proven design... I don't see the need to pay $1000 for a top of the line m1911, when a $400 one is probably just fine.

I want an AR-15 too... there's another thread going in the Rifle forum... :)
I'll probably have another $500 spendable by the end of the year...

so I'd rather not spend my entire $500 on a .45. I still have my first gun... a M1911 Colt made in 1921. When I found out a while back that it was very collectible, and worth some money... I decided not to shoot it much anymore. That's why I want a modern .45 replacement.

How's $350 for a basic 1911 sound? I don't own one of these, so again no personal experience. However, these Rock Island Armory 1911s are thought well of both here and on the forums at www.m1911.org. Do a lil' readin and see what you think of them. $306 and add $25-30 to ship, then another $20-25 for FFL fee, put you right around $350.

BENDER, you can get the 1911 GI model at Sportsmans for $439 i believe, and the MilSpec is at $490 if i recall correctly. i thought about these too, but with the demand and low availability of XD45 in a 4" service i decided to jump on one while they weren't much more than $500 and were available without having to order one in. i paid $518 for mine just last week at Sportsmans and I can remember at the beginning of the year when they were $440 there. I do a lot of price comparison shopping in the area and Sportsmans always seems to be the lowest. They had all 3 of the guns you are talking about available in stock as of last wednesday so you shouldn't have a problem getting what you want. However the XD45 seems to sell as soon as it hits the floor, they had 4 in stock last tuesday, i went back wednesday and they had only 3, i bought one and that left them with two, thats two gone in two days and they claimed that they had another guy call in and want to put one on layaway, so if thats true that would be 3 sold in 2 days, you can see the popularity of this gun and how quickly it's gone. Good luck wuth your purchase and hit me up if you ever want a range buddy, im tired of going to the range by myself.

I'm not sure where you're from, but they have them here: www.whittakerguns.com for $460. Even if you had to order it from them, it would come a little under $500

Thanks, I checked out their website a little... they have great prices !

wish I had gun stores like that around here. All the nice big gun stores here sell at full retail (or very close) or even higher...

Check out S&W. I have a 457, great little .45. Would be my carry gun, if I could carry. I'm actually about to send it to S&W to have it conveted to DAO.

In early August I purchased an XD-45 Service for just under $500 including tax from Schramm's at one of the Dallas gun shows. I believe it was at Big Town. I didn't price them at the last gun show, but I doubt they've gone up much.

I think I looked at the Baby Eagles, either at Academy or Sportsman's Warehouse. I liked them.

There's a couple of big shows coming up, Oct. 28 and again on Nov. 4. Hopefully, there will be some better deals there.

edit: how's the glock 21 compare to the XD? I think glock's are kinda ugly, but I know they're popular... I'm talking about fit, finish, general quality, as well as accuracy. As for accessories... I wouldn't mind having some CT laser grips, but I don't know if they are available for the XD or the glock 21.
