Is $475 a good deal on a 4" Pre-lock 686? It looks to be in pretty nice condition.

Yeah, it is a good price. Someone will pipe up and say that prices are not that high anymore, but they are full of it. Try to find another for that price, you won't find one.

If you're gonna buy one, make sure it has the old-style cylinder release, too.

That's important to a lot of people.

I got a pretty nice one for $350 in a gun store a couple months ago. However, that was because they screwed up on the price.:D

I asked the guy what they wanted for it, he said, $350. I said, "Sold."

The shop owner came by and wasn't all that happy.

stoveboltgunnut, thats just not true, they are not hard to find for that or less and yes prices are coming down a "bit"

Thanks, Landpimp. Stoveboltgunnut has been on a tear lately to talk prices back up - but they just are what they are.

dBA - $475 is a fair price for one in good condition. A 4" pre-lock can be round butt or square; 1994 was the change-over year I think. If it's an older one with the walnut target grips it's an even more attractive deal. If you have any desire to 'scope it, a -4 or -5 is what you want (pre-drilled and tapped). I am a 686 fan - they are great guns. I like shooting 357 in them more than in N frames, but I think I'm a minority in that regard.

Oh my goodness...

Why on earth would I want to talk prices up!?! I buy everyone I can find in my price range (cheap, because I'm poor). That makes no sense dude.

How 'bout your $550 finish wear having model 66? Are you talking prices back up on that one? Or do you want to sell it for what is worth ($450 max) I don't care if it is a 2.5 barrel. :)

Good price on a 4" 686. That would be listed at least $100 higher around here. Prices have gone up and are staying up. I used to see pre 10's and Victories for $200+/-. Not any more, they are $400 and up. You still find an occasional good deal, I just bought a 98% M36 3" for $100 from a private party. Makes up for some of my other buys.
