^^ I like even just handling my Romanian. I just haven't gotten around to "de-gunking" it yet, so I can't try it out, even though I did already get some ammo for it.

It's coming, though. I feel it. :)

Could you please provide whatever information you have concerning your statement above?

"There are new-manufacture Tokarevs with safeties, and a short "Commander" size version."

These people keep sending me sale flyers for them:

http://www.jgsales.com/zastava-yugo...mi-auto-pistol,-9mm,-blued,-new.-p-61820.html

"New model M88A Zastava Mini-Tokarev semi auto pistols in 9mm. Black finish with a 3.7" barrel, single action, slide mounted safety lever, and 2ea 8rd mags. Made in Serbia by Zastava. New in box."

I have both a CZ-52 and a Romanian Tokerov. I'll take the Tokerov any day all day. The trigger slap on a CZ-52 is the worst I've felt on any firearm. So much so that I barely take it out to the range anymore.

I own two Tok's. Actually one is the Norinco Model 54 in 9mm.
The other is an original Russian 1941 (year made stamped on the slide). It is in the 7.62x25mm and is one of the flattest shooting centerfire pistols I own. It also has deep penetration, like it's close cousin, Mauser 7.63x25.

I like both. They are basically the Browning/Colt 1911 design.

The 9mm ammo is readily available for the 54. What I don't like is the mandatory safety, which operates opposite of the 1911. All the currently imported Tok's have this "after market" safety, and some purchasers have had it professionally removed.

You don't need to add a safety, when one is already provided. Simply use the half-cock position.

A manual safety is one of the handgun "import ruequirements", so unless or until you can persuade Uncle otherwise, I guess that manual safety will be there on imports, either made that way or retrofitted.

A couple of holstermakers make CCW rigs for them, too.
Sweet! :)

A few years ago I ordered a leather crossdraw holster from Ross. Very nice and actually molded for the TT-33 specifically. IIRC, it cost me ~$75.

My TTs and all of my Variants fit in it ... but only one at a time. ;) It is good for winter with a big coat (half)open or when driving distance.

ATTENTION: Southern Ohio Gun (SOG) has new production M57 Tokarevs on sale for $199.95 this week. I bought one earlier this summer and it is very nice.
