Hey guys, I am looking for a 1911 9mm pistol. I want to spend around $700 but don't really want to get the Taurus (too many lemons). I know Kimber and STI make some but they are well above my price range. Any suggestions for something a little cheaper and reliable.

I saw a para ordnance 9mm 1911 the other day at my local gun shop for around that price I believe.

However, you could go for a browning hi power. Same general gun (from what I've read). Just a little different due to being a later design.

Check out the new RIA 9mm Tactical -- got mine for $420.

I know Taurus has a 9mm 1911 in the catalog, but I've never seen or heard of one actually being available. I've a Taurus 1911 in .38 Super that shoots really well, but I haven't shot it a lot. The out of the box experience couldn't have been better, will say the same about the RIA.

Could save a bit longer and pick up one of those Kimbers or STI's. Springfield 9mm's are in that price range used, if you are patient and keep an eye open.

another option:

Be patient, be vigilant and buy a Colt Commander in 9mm.

Paid around $500 for this one:

Spend a few hundred on it:

Or just buy a nice one for between $700-$900

Then you'll have something kind of unique which might even appreciate over time.

Good luck!

i just my kimber pro carry in black i think i paid $760 for it new. a couple weeks later i put night sights on it. it is verry accurate & i haven't had any problems with it.

I have a Springfield 9mm that cost in your range and would go with the Spartan before the Kimber the Trojan would be better than either.

There was a Defender 90 in 9mm at the gun show last weekend when I got mine in .45. The .45 was $778 and the 9mm was $787. Not sure why the difference in price, but I felt the decision was pretty easy on my end. I realize that is nearly $100 more than the OP asked, but patience will get you there.
