I don’t want a “gun fighter” in that situation. I want a killer so I would go with Doc Holiday or maybe Cirrillo as they were less gun fighter and more fighter/killer

Mundon, Michelek, etc are/were all insanely fast and talented but give me somebody who is talented when the range is 2 ways.

I went with Cirrillo or Bryce. Doc Holliday was in contention but if you ticked him off he might cap you also :)

Hamer. He was probably the most experienced longest lived gunfighter of the bunch, and he certainly understood the importance of avoidance or where necessary bushwacking. He also certainly wasnt a psychopath as many of them were.

now I need to go read about Askins.

To fully appreciate his mindset, read his autobiography Unrepentant Sinner, published in 1985. A better (and saner) read is his book The Art of Handgun Shooting, published in 1939; one of my favorite instructional books concerning Bullseye shooting.

No way for me to pick, as Bryce and Askins helped train me as a young man I know their skills

I can envy you! Taught by two of the all time masters of the Gunfight.

Although my pick was D.A. "Jelly" Bryce, Askins and Jim Cirillo come up right in his rear view mirror.

I am not sure to whom you list as Glen Ford. If you are talking about the actor, then I would love to have met him. A great Horseman and a collector of firearms and shooting enthusiast.

Here he is riding his horse Tops

And who could forget his great western

Yes. It was the fine actor, Glenn. He could ride and shoot and was considered the fastest from the holster of all of Hollyeood's leading men.

For a 2 on 2 gunfight I'd pick one of my brothers. They are fast, accurate, well trained and ruthless.

If I have time to pick, I have time to get gone. If I'm pressed for time, gimme the first dude that shows up with a gun that isn't trying to shoot me.

Not surprising who has the most votes, but my vote went to someone that had not only good shooting skills but had experience. Mind set and experience to me is extremely important. Being fast and accurate shooting targets does not necessary give a person special talents that apply over other factors in an actual life or death situation. Personally I have no desire to ever have another situation where bullets are coming my way. . Only a fool would wish to be in a gun fight no matter who was on your side. Interesting thread however.

I think many of us picked the one we know the most about. Jerry M. has a pretty large fan base because he is really good at what a bunch of us do. We know what he does. We know he's good at it.

I picked the LEO on the list that I knew the most about. I've heard of most of the other guys on the list, but I actually know a little bit about Jordan (well, I know a little bit about Holliday as well, but...) so I picked him. Several people picked Cirillo, but I know absolutely nothing about him!

I was torn between Cooper and Jordan, went with Cooper because of my love for the 1911 but truth be told Alvin York, Audie Murphy or Chris Kylewould be my picks. Would just hope that I would be worthy of fighting next to them. :notworthy:

From this list, I chose Jelly Bryce. But if I really had my druthers, it would be John Wesley Hardin. Fast, accurate, and no qualms with killing someone. God forbid, but that is the kind of person that would be the most helpful in that situation.

The poll is over and Jerry Miculek eased to a convincing victory over Jelly Bryce and Doc Holiday.

Thank you all for the votes and commentary.

My man didn't make the list. Ambushed along with two friends in 1854 while prospecting. Both friends cut down immediately. Captain Jonathan Davis takes care of eleven bandits of a gang known to have had fourteen members (it's not clear if the other three were even present.)
