I’m looking for a long range rifle scope to go on a 308 bolt gun with heavy 20" barrel. Want mil-dot reticule and 1/4 moa or better finger adjustable turrets. Basically, a Leopold MK 4 type scope, but the catch is, it needs to be under 800 dollars.

the bushnell and the burris both fit the requirements, which one is better quality?

i just read the thread on a bushnell 4200 scope, didn't sound very good

I would call Scott at Liberty Optics and see if he can squeak you into a Ziess Conquest 4.5-14x44mm Target Turret version (I think he can). I would opt for the RZ-1000 reticle specially designed for the .308Win. but it is an odd reticle, so I can understand some folks not caring for it. If that is the case you can get a Mil-Dot, but it is more costly IIRC.

Option no. 2 is a Vortex Viper PST series. This one is available with matched MOA/MOA turrets and reticle, so it is better in that respect, but glass is not quite as good IMO. Talk to Scott about this one too, because the FFP models are at the edge of your budget as well.

Option no. 3 involves a slightly stretched budget (by about $50-100.00; a little more for FFP, but worth it), but will get you into really good glass with the IOR 2.5-10x42mm.

The last option (that I would choose) is a Bushnell Elite 4200 3-12x44mm, also on the edge of your budget, but is a FFP optic and meets your requirements. The thread describing non-repeatable adjustments has not been my experience, but take note that it is still at the bottom of my list.

:)
