I'm considering a ported barrel [LWD or Storm Lake] for a Glock 23 [.40 S&W] so I can shoot lead reloads in action pistol events. The barrels are ported "externally" and apparently extend 1" beyond the slide. Lone Wolf Dist. claims muzzle flip is reduced 50%.
Are ported barrels really worthwhile or a gimmick ? Pros and cons please.

barrel porting really does work. Especially on the more powerful, higher pressure calibers...like 357mag.

Ported barrels

I have several handguns with ported barrels - 44mag, 41 mag, 357 mag, .40S&W and they make a marked difference in felt recoil and muzzle flip. As to your Glock 23, I have one done by a local gunsmith from Reno area which is awesome-no muzzle flip (practically) and with standard length barrel

make sure ported barrels are allowed by the rules for your gun/class.

if you can use one, they're awwesome. i shot a colt delta elite 10mm with full power loads... it felt like a 22lr when the compensated barrel was in.

don't know

don't know about the regulations for some of these shooting tournaments. but I love ported guns. I have had all of mine ported by mag-na-port and even though I shoot only 9mm. I firmly believe they do as advertised. 50% reduction is pure b. S. though IMO. I do feel Mag-na ports work is some of the best..
