Stopped by Galyans on the way home tonight for a case of shells. Finished browsing and headed for the checkout. I set them down on the checkout counter, and the girl running the register starts to ring me up. She then asks "Is this what you call a Flat?" I knew what she was getting at; the 10% case discount. I informed her (unsuccessfully trying to keep a straight face) that flowers come by the flat and ammo comes by the case. She turns a little  and I got a good chuckle out of it. She fumbled and giggled her way through the rest of the transaction.

Anyway, thought it was funny. Just to clarify, this was at the store checkout not the firearms department.

Actually, she was cute ... and about the same age as one of my daughters. If you are young and single, I'd recommend shopping there, good prices on guns too.

Went to a Sporting Clays range one time and they were calling cases of shells 'slabs', IIRC.

My wife buys flowers wholesale by the bunch, dozen, or stem. I've never heard her refer to a flat of flowers. A flat of strawberries, on the other hand, .....:)

STW: IIRC, A flat is the plastic tray some flowers come on, usually smaller flowers are sold like this for when you need a lot of them in a garden.

I'm awake now.

A flat of ammo.

Is that like an apartment full of ammo? Flat = apartment. So if you buy enough ammo to fill your apartment you get the 10% discount?
