The gist, Rep Peter King of New York wants to make it illegal to possess a firearm within 1,000 ft of a "high profile government official". So these officials would be a mobile suspension of civil rights. If he visited your neighborhood during election season, your rights to keep firearms in your home would be suspended. If he drove through the same intersection as you, again, your second amendment rights go away.

This is one of the most dangerous ideas I have heard in a long while. He considers himself so special that our civil rights need to be suspended around him. Personally, I wish those of you from NY would remove him of the government official title for this.

Wow. Just wow.

We better also suspend the first, in case his feelings might be hurt.

Why do politicians think they are anything more than the servants of the public?

Wow, no kidding.

Maybe he can to the same for bad language directed towards him.

That way he can trash the first 2 amendments at the same time.

I wonder if he believes that such a law would have prevented Loughner from killing. If he thinks this law would work, he's an idiot. If he knows that it won't work, but he just wants this type of control, he's evil.

Once again legislation that will only restrict lawful carry by law abiding citizens. I fail to see this would prevent a person from unlawfully carrying with malicious intent. It ranks right up there with the "Gun Free Zone" signs we see popping up all over the place. That will simply not stop someone with ill intent.

No kidding. We need to outlaw terse grumbling and ironic musings.

We must be kind to these rights-squashing, thin-skinned spineless weasels.

Yikes! Was that too forward for me to actually say?!!

The tragic events in Ariziona will provide a perfect opportunity for gun-grabbers to capitalize on this situation.

Sir, sorry to nit pick, but don't you mean suspend?

Yes I did, I was so ticked off typing that I missed it.

I blows my mind this guy thinks this is a good thing. He sees nothing wrong with it. School shootings, shooting in bars (illegal to carry in bars here), shootings in posted restaurants, etc WHO thinks passing laws like this do ANYTHING to make us safer? These people are hired by us to create laws to actually serve us and more importantly to serve the nation as a whole. To make this a better nation.

Seriously, if they were to pass a law like this, the first time a federal official drove through my neighborhood or past me, I would be sorely tempted to sue for violation of my civil rights. I mean consider you neighbor were to run for senate and win. Now under this guys proposed law, you would have to remove all your firearms from your home.

Not to get a tin foil hatted on this but in this day and age lawmakers want to reduce the distance between them and us. If they continue to separate themselves and increase that distance they are going to bring about another civil war and/or revolution. It is scary to imagine that happening to us in this nation but in the last few years I have seen many things I never thought I would see in this country.

This guy and those like him (on both sides of the aisle) need to be voted out of office.

I'm a citizen of NY and the pols are frustrating to me. There are 4 registered Democrats for each registered republican in NY. Our property, income and sales taxes are out-of-control but the pols keep spending to make friends with highly compensated government workers who VOTE.

Anyway, it is nearly impossible to vote out bad pols. Example?

Charlie Rangle, former charman of the House Ways and Means committee was re-elected in a landslide in November even though he failed to pay taxes and solicited funds for personal use which is prohibited.

This is not he end of more gun laws. I'm reasonably certain Carrol Malloney of Long Island will introduce more restrictive gun laws.

Does this make King a RINO?

It's not surprising considering King has a grade of "D" from the NRA.

King is a known imbecile. Just more proof that most of the smart people left NY already. The rest of us are stuck here for one reason or another.

In Pennsylvania there is an old stupid law still on the books saying something like this:

"If you approach a horse (or horses) while driving and your car appears to make them skittish, you are to get out, disassemble the car piece by piece, and toss it behind the nearest bush."

New York's new law will probably go something like this:

"If you are carrying a firearm and within 1,000 feet of a high profile government official, you must disassemble your firearm piece by piece and toss it behind the nearest bush."

"If a high profile government official passes within 1,000 feet of your property along a state highway or otherwise, you must disassemble each and every firearm, piece by piece, then hide yourself behind the nearest bush."

I can't stand Peter King. What do you expect from a downstate Republican... they are a very screwy breed. At least you know what most "normal" republicans will do, but this guy will do anything to get re-elected...

This post sponsored by an Upstate NY resident who rolls his eyes at everything east of the Hudson, so take it for what it's worth...

First tell him that murder is against the law,and that dont stop those that are intent.

Guess he actually believes that all ya gotta do is pass a law - he might as well as pass gas !!!.

I'm on the east side of the river about 30 min from bennington vermont. I think that really its from the city of hudson and all points south where the worst people are. I would be more than happy to allow the downstaters to remove themselves from the rest of us. Downstate nonsense has been the detriment of upstate central and western NY.

I would say that you New Yorkers are in double trouble==King is a Republican??

The state to the West of me has the same problem-except backwards-The Crooks of Cook County(Chicago) run rough shod on the rights of the rest of the state..

Authority: Well, I'm one downstater (Westchester County) that's had enough of the horrible gun laws in the state. I wish NY had Vermont/AZ/AK style constitutional carry.

On or about January 1st I wrote our new Governor a letter politely imploring him to not carry out any new firearm restrictions.

I also thanked my County Executive for reinstating the gun shows that his predecessor had singlehandedly banned from the County Center.
