But she's against guns, she doesn't need one, none of us, let's all pillowfight and hug bunnies.

Would there be any anti cops if were required to forego firearm ownership or professional use.

If you check 'A', guns are not an American right, you can't carry a gun when we assign to that nice beat where there are tons of murders and equal opportunity rapists. Hope your values are worth it.

the anti's will just say "If a police chief can't be trusted to keep a gun from being stolen, then no one can be trusted with a gun!"

well at least I wish they would show their full blown craziness and say that :D

That's impossible. I call BS on this story. Everyone knows it's illegal to steal. There's no way they steal things in Florida. :neener:

Police Chief Expects Punishment Over Gun Theft
Demings Says She Followed Policy For Storing Weapon

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Orlando Police Chief Val Demings said Wednesday she has asked the department's internal affairs division to investigate the theft of her service weapon last month.

Authorities said the weapon was taken from her city vehicle on Feb. 27. Although Demings did not violate policy, because she had the had the gun hidden, she said Wednesday that she expects some punishment because she should be held to a higher standard.

The theft did not become public until a tipster called the Orlando Sentinel on Tuesday. Demings did file a report with the Orange County Sheriff's Office, which is dated Feb. 28.

Demings said it was the first time she had her service weapon stolen in 25 years in law enforcement. She said she does not usually store her gun in her car.

said gun was in car cause unreliable house guests were coming

Might be a mega anti-freedom bitch, but she didn't do any wrong this time afaict.

Actually, either she or her husband did, unless her husband wasn't worried about the house guests and had his weapon with him in the house. She claims she stored the weapon in her vehicle, as allowed by OPD regulations. Her husband, who is the Orange County Sheriff, could not have done so, as OCSO's policy prohibits weapon storage in vehicles. That policy went into effect a couple of years ago, after the OCSO had dozens of weapons stolen from unattended vehicles, including a suppressed MP-5, a few rifles, and an M-4 belonging to the SWAT team.

Why a 2 cop household would not have a gun safe is beyond me. Heck, a small document safe costs about $100 at the Depot.

This happens every day, (maybe not from the chief's car). The police don't report it publicly much but criminals know that an empty police car is a good place to find guns. A good reason why not to publish CHL lists.

Yes, she did. And the proof is . . . she got her gun stolen!!

Now, me, I keep my guns in a locked safe that six men can't carry, inside a locked basement, when I have people over who are "unreliable."

She should be disciplined -- all the more severely because of her exalted position.

Hmm, that in itself seems troubling. Many, if not most, law enforcement agencies have administrative rules that prohibit "associating and/or socializing with known criminals", or something to that effect.

The Orlando Sentinel said:
The police chief had told the Orlando Sentinel she had left the gun in the car that night because she and her husband, Sheriff Jerry Demings, were expecting guests for the weekend and they had young children.

Here is a story with more more than 50 words.

Political beliefs aside, this is a Chief of Police that was targetted by a criminal because she is a COP. She has 25 years of service in the State that I live in. She did not break any policies, attempt to cover up the crime where she was a victim, and submitted herself to Internal Affairs disciplinary action. The attitude that "she is a gun grabber haha her gun got stolen irony!" because she thinks differently than you is pretty despicable and surprising.

Video said some kids would be in house. I said unreliable to summarize a situation. Her actions seem reasonable to me. Your car is your property and you have every right to expect it not be violated. 'Less you be a short ways from being at fault when raped or robbed for being too tempting a target.

Your home is your property and you have every right to expect it will not be invaded, burglarized, or set afire. But a rational man would undestand that those things are not matters of "rights" but of risks, and take precautions.

There is plenty of experience to show that a car is not a safe place to store a firearm. If she left a firearm in a car overnight, she was negligent. If the regulation permits it, the person who approved that regulation (and I wonder who that was:scrutiny:) was also negligent.

Well, she need not fear the gun anymore. So one less problem around in her workplace and personal life.

Excuse me while I stay down here on the floor and catch breath from laughing so hard.

She should get some kind of disciplinary action as would any citizen who does not secure a weapon properly against being stolen. As with alot of states she should be held responsible for what happens with the weapon.

Unlike previous thefts of guns from rank-and-file officers, Demings said she told her Internal Affairs office to discipline her without going through an investigation.

Her investigators declined the offer, saying it would be treating her differently.

"I take full responsibility," Demings said. "I should be treated differently because I am chief of police so I am willing to take full responsibility."
