I currently am looking for a 3" S&W revolver. Does anyone have some suggestions for this revolver? It can be .38 or .357. I own a 642 and a Ruger Service Six with 4" barrel along with other bottom feeders. But, I just love revolvers!! Thanks for your input.

I have a 696-0, that has been probably the BEST Smith I have ever owned. I believe Smith makes a 357/38 version of that gun (I believe it is a 636?...somebody help me here!), and if you could find an older one in good shape, that is what I would recommend.

3 incher

Theres a 3 inch model 10 for sale in the classifieds. It is listed with another gun. I believe the other gun is a 2 1/2 66 in North Carolina

+1 on the Smith Model 60.
Purchased one recently for my daughter. After putting 200 rounds of .38 Special wadcutters and semi-wadcutters through it, I think we both really like it.
Putting together some light semi-wadcutter .357 loads for it now, to try out.

I have a 3" M65 that is probably the last gun I would ever part with. Great balance of small enough and big enough. .357 versatility is incredibly...well, versatile!

+1 on the 3" 65 (mine's a 3" 65-3). I'd take just about any K with a 3" tube: 10, 13, 64, 65, 19, 66...

I also have a 3" J-frame, but that 65 is just a great, versatile sidearm.

My only 3"-er - a 696-1 I bought new over six years ago for $439. I think a 686/686+ or 625/629 in 3" would be more desireable, especially if you don't reload. Still, my 240gr LSWC over 3.5gr Titegroup in Federal-primed .44 Russian cases will make 692 fps - wimpy - but it makes 'major' power factor. Fun, too!

A 3" 64 RB was my first new handgun purchase as a young man, and I'd never sell it. The balance on these (and the comparable 65) are superb.

you might look at the 3" sp101 they are easier to find, I just bought one off thr.us classifieds and like it very much, the guy I bought it from had some action work done on it and the barrel slabsided. it carries very well in my new simply rugged holster, I carried it today at easter services and it rode and concealed great.

+1 on the 3 inch M60, I have one that I carry fairly regularly.

Good luck finding a holster for it though, ended up havin Milt Sparks make me one for it...no regrets on that at ALL.

I picked the 3" M-65 as my every day carry gun. I also have a 3" Model 13, but I prefer the stainless steel to the blue for every day use.

Either one is a great gun and, if you can find one, you want go wrong.

I have both the 3” M60 and the 3” M60 Pro… they are two of the best revolvers I have and balance perfectly. It’s surprising how much the J-frame adjustable sights give a much clearer sight picture.

The more I’ve shot them, the smoother the action has become… the 3” makes a great “all-around” handgun…

Personally I like calibers that begin with a "4" so I prefer the 624, 629, or M-24 S&W's

The 629 is probably the best all-around in my opinion as you can shoot 44 Specials in it AND 44 Magnums.

I picked up a S&W 65 3 inch a couple of weeks ago on Auction Arms. The guy advertised it as a 2 1/2 inch so there was not much action on it.

Along with the M67 Carry Comp you might want to take a look at the 3" M586 L-Comp.
That's a great revolver IMO. If I had the cash I would buy one right now.
