Anyone know anything about Marlin(same as the rifle) scopes.I have one that was on my Sporterized/bubbarized Mauser when I bought it.I have since put a different scope on it but does anyone have any info on these are the any good.It is a 5PlusX Model 700A. I believe it is a 6x40 and was made in Japan.Any info would be apreciated. Thanks.

I'm thinking about puting it on my AK variant after I get around to putting an optics rail on it though it is probably overkill for it.

While I worked in a gunshop while in highschool back in early '70's, we had both rimfire 3/4", and centerfire 1" Marlin rifle scopes. They usually came on Marlin rifles as part of a "package" much the same way the Rem m710 now comes with a scope. The one I bought was a 3/4" scope, and was in a Marlin marked box. Cost was about $10.00 in 1972.

From what I can remember, and glean from the Marlin .22rf scope I have, they were essentially Tasco scopes with another name on them.

The Marlin scope I have is the 3/4" 2x-7x scope which is essentially the same scope now available at Wallyworld under the Simmons, and other names.

But of course, now made in China.

They were and are now still entry level inexpensive scopes. No real collector value.

Mine has a lot of sentimental value as I have killed several dump truck loads of game with scope/rifle over past 32 years. Plan to pass it on to grandson........ if I ever have one.
(had two daughters who could care less about hunting/guns)
