I picked up a used Glock 17 that had been souped up a bit by its previous owner, a full time competitive shooter. Is reportedly holds a few records and has some trophies behind it. Well trusting its pedigree, I didn't take it apart and check things out before buying, luckily I got a great deal. When I took it apart later I found the barrel looked a bit odd as you can see in the picture. I went ahead and purchased a new KKM Precision barrel to throw on but I am trying to figure out how it came to look like this.

Looks pretty used, but it doesn't apppear damaged. Kinda dirty, too.

Looks like somebody put a few bushels of shells through it, but it appears to be holding up.

Yeah the barrel appears to be fine I just have never seen gunk get so solidified that I had to chisel it off to clean the gun. Lots of heat and little cleaning evidently doesn't slow these old Glocks down. I think the 10,000+ rounds must have been put through the gun with no cleaning. I am amazed the gun still shoots as well as it does.

Scrub it down with a brass bristle brush and some good solvent. Get it spotless, and then work toward getting it as dirty as it is now.

Here is my modified G22 barrel.
It now supports the case to the web.

Soak it in GMC top engine cleaner and bronze brush it. May take a few times but that will get the carbon deposits off.
