Here's a local story I thought very odd. Not your typical SD story.

Drunk guy is attacked in his home and tries shooting "alert shots" to rouse a neighbor which wound his attacker. Loses his gun to the criminal and lives to tell about it! I wouldn't mind being so lucky some day.

A 35-year-old Harrison man has been bound over for trial in Gladwin County Circuit Court on eight charges in connection with the beating of a Gladwin man.
No trial date has been set for Brett A. Ostrander, who is charged in the June 21 beating of Claude Lambert at Lambert’s Gladwin home.
Ostrander is charged with assault with intent to murder, assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, assault with a dangerous weapon, armed robbery, larceny from a person, larceny in a building, being a felon with a weapon and possessing a firearm while committing a felony. Separately from the eight, he also is charged with being a habitual offender.
Charles Jones, Gladwin police chief, said Ostrander had bought a car from Lambert and spent the evening watching television and drinking with Lambert at the older man’s home. At about 1 a.m., Lambert asked Ostrander to leave. While Ostrander used the bathroom, Lambert went into his attached garage to shut off a light. As he walked toward the light, Ostrander came up behind him and began choking him, Jones said. At one point, Lambert had put his .38- caliber revolver pistol in the waist of his pants under his shirt. Ostrander got Lambert down onto the floor and Lambert got his gun and fired a couple of shots in hopes of waking a neighbor who was a state trooper. One shot entered Ostrander’s leg, one shot grazed Ostrander and the other missed him.
Jones said Ostrander then wrestled the gun from Lambert, but the trigger guard was bent. Ostrander pointed the gun at Lambert’s head but the gun didn’t fire. Ostrander then hit Lambert across the face with the gun barrel, then started beating him about the head with the butt.
Ostrander went to the sheriff’s office and told dispatchers he thought he killed Lambert, Jones said. Ostrander brought a gun with him to the sheriff’s office. He was arrested on a parole violation for possessing a firearm and for drinking.
Prosecutor Tom Evans called two witnesses, Lambert and Gladwin police officer Eric Killian. Both men’s testimony was consistent with earlier accounts, Evans said. Ostrander’s attorney, Louis J. Willford, said he would not comment on the case.
According to a state Department of Corrections website, Ostrander is in the Carson City Correctional Facility on a Gladwin County conviction of arson of a dwelling.
