armor piecing "military bullets" in Austin area, Texas report

The charge of having armor piercing ammo is definitely wrong. Rifle rounds even in FMJ form will pierce most forms of body armor. Everything I have read is that body armor is fairly useless against high power rifle rounds.

I used to have an old Mauser where the ammo was brass cased with steel core bullets. I know they were because I used a magnet an only the bullets stuck to the magnet.

I liek the use of "clip" and then change it up to magazine.

What the guy did that was bad was chase little kids down with his AR and threaten to shoot them.

I heard that the FN 5-7 pistol has some military only AP ammo. It is designed for penetrating soft body armor, and I read somewhere the civilian version of the round sucks ass.

Hmm. Not sure what that has to do with anything but...

Yes, there is an AP only bullet in 5.7x28. It's restricted to LE and military.

There was another bullet, not legally AP but had some political turnmoil so FN stopped selling it. It's legal to own, comes up for sale now and then.

The sporting rounds are OK, not great. Never designed to be defensive rounds though.

FN is NOT the only maker of ammo for the 5.7x28 however, there are rounds available specifically designed for self defense.

That would not be entirely true. The non-AP versions go right through body armor as well, up to Level II. Why? It is small, spitzer pointed ammo. It passes between the fibers just like an ice pic.

The problem with the rounds is that they tend not to tumble or break apart. So they tend to do minimal damage aside from the tiny wound channel.

(In my youthful days we called it a very politically incorrect term)

Sorry but that made me LOL.

Anyway, lets say I'm traveling to and from the range, ranch, hunting lease and have some rifles with me. Lets say, SKS, Nagant, and .30-06 and I get pulled over for speeding or rolling through a stop sign (hey, we all do it).The officer looks in the back of my truck, sees the guns, inspects them and says "That's an illegal assault rifle, and this ammo is illegal, you can't have that". Which it is not, what stops him from taking me to jail?

Because regardless of if you are found not guilty or the charges are dropped it's still going to suck.
Meaning, I get arrested, my vehicle gets towed that cost $$$ I go to jail, that takes time and is not something I want to do.

How do I protect my self from LEOs that do not fully comprehend the laws they are overly eager to enforce?

And oh by the way, it doesn't help when you are in your mid 20s and are still seen as a "punk kid".

Thanks for the info, Art. You piqued my curiousity; now I will have to try and find some info on those .45's. Don't happen to know a place to start, do you?

Be very nice and do what they tell you. Ask for a supervisor and to see in the book what you are being charged with.

or learn how to stop at the sign :)
