WVMountainBoy: Hello from Elkins!
Here are the places you can't carry in West Virginia and appropriate WV codes.

Places Off Limits While Carrying

Although a CHL authorizes the licensee to carry statewide, other state laws restrict or prohibit the carrying of weapons, openly or concealed, in certain locations. Having a valid CHL is not a defense or exception to the prohibitions under West Virginia law on carrying in any of the following areas:

Correctional facilities (§61-5-8)

Primary or secondary school property (§61-7-11a)

School buses (§61-7-11a)
Primary or secondary school-sponsored functions or events (§61-7-11a)
Courthouses (§61-7-11a)
Anywhere on the State Capitol Complex, including the grounds outside the buildings (§61-6-19)

Wherever signs are posted indicating weapon restrictions or where notice has been given by other means (§61-7-14)
In addition to these locations, federal law prohibits carrying in, among other places:

Any building or part of a building owned or leased by the federal government where federal employees are regularly present for the purpose of performing their official duties (18 U.S.C. § 930)

The secure areas of airports
Please note that under the prohibition on carrying on school property, a person with a CHL cannot have a loaded gun in their car even if that person only temporarily drives his or her vehicle onto school grounds with the intent of quickly leaving without exiting the vehicle. Many states have recognized the inherent problems with similar laws and have, in some states, completely exempted CHL holders from their gun-free school zone laws or, in many other states, created exemptions to allow CHL holders to legally carry and store loaded handguns in their vehicle while driving or parking on school property.

Second, our State Capitol carry ban, enacted in 2002, does not seem to contain an exemption to legally permit a CHL holder to even leave a gun in his or her car if that car is parked in a parking lot or garage on the Capitol complex. Violations of this statute are misdemeanors punishable by up to 6 months in jail; because the penalty for a first offense of illegally carrying a concealed weapon without a license is up to 1 year in jail, this statute only affects CHL holders and a very small number of non-CHL holders who openly carry. Neighboring Virginia allows anyone with a CHL to carry anywhere in their state capitol, even into meetings of the General Assembly or legislative committees.

Guns and bars don't mix plain and simple.

You can't go into a bar carrying and operate under normal self-defense conditions simply because the risk for physical threats is much higher. In fact its almost expected for there to be fights, that is why they have bouncers.

For example, I have a religious family member (ccw) who never drinks and never has been to a bar. I asked him if a person tried to tackle him or punch him on his front lawn would he shoot him? He said "yes of course, anyone that crazy is a threat to me and my family." Ok- now imagine that same mentality in a bar. A guy rushes you, throws a punch so you draw and shoot him. Imagine you get jumped by two or three guys in a bar... and you shoot one? Is that ok? No it isn't. I've been attacked in bars (sometimes for no legitimate reason) and in every instance, despite the risk of major physical injury, (even if I was sober) I never would have been justified killing someone with a pistol in self-defense.

To anyone who wants to carry in a bar (and I mean hard drinking type of bars) either learn how to fight or don't go into them- its a different world than the sober streets.

* And which is why I don't go to bars anymore. Way too many young tough-guys looking to prove themselves after 5 beers. :)

Actually, being drunk is not a valid excuse for assaulting someone. Three big guys attack me and I am in fear for my life... It is self defense regardless of their alcohol content.

Essentially. If they refuse to give them to you then just leave.

Most of the time you can figure it out with a little common sense. What your talking about is essentially illegal. If your not sure that the place is a bar and it is illegal there you should not carry there as it could lead to arrest. And it would probably be a gun crime then, and you would personally be involved in giving the anti-gun groups more ammo to use against us. You don't want to do that, do you?
