Seems like there are new pistols out every day. The 1000 dollar market compact 1911 carry, is heating up again, and the para and kimber, springer, all have new carry models. Para has a blk single stack full size 1911 I saw in one of the popular gun magazines with an msrp of under $600. Kinber has two new rapture, super looking pistols out and a bunch of others. What have you seen that looks interesting? Try to keep it around 35 ozs or less, and around a thousand. Any new ones that caught your fancy. I am saying around a thousand, only because carrying a three thousand dollar 45 oz gun is not the most practical thing although some guys do it.

A friend has the Kimber Pro Carry and I really like it. Light and has a very smooth action. Very accurate recoil is light a GREAT carry gun

Dan Wesson CBOB. Hands down the most customized production 1911 there is and a GREAT value.

I just looked at the fusion and sti line also. Similar products, lots to choose from, good suggestions

I just got a SA Champion Operator last week for $909 out the door brand new. Im a small framed guy (5'8" /180 lbs) and I would feel comfortable carrying this piece discreetley. So far Ive put 200 rounds through it with zero malfunctions right out of the box. The action is nice and tight but smooth, recoil is nice, a real pleasure to shoot and the firing process is quick, smooth and snappy if that makes any sense. I dont know how much it weighs though, guess I could google it.

So, this is my two cents.

There is no need to spend 1k on a carry sized 1911, Kimber has the Ultra Carry II with or with out night sights for about $700.00 NIB if you look around. A family member of mine has been carrying one for a few years and loves it. Its essentially a Raptor with out all the nifty unnecessary crap.

RIA also makes a 3" or 3.5" 1911 for about $400.00 no bells and whistles but from my
experience with RIA they go boom every time.

I just got a ultra covert. Retail around here is $1450, but I picked mine up new/unfired in the box used for $950. Nifty little pistol, still not sure about the color scheme though. Love the lasergrips though.

For an out-of-box carry pistol, I'd choose a Dan Wesson Commander CBoB in your price range.

For all the quality manufacture, fitting and upgraded parts, it compares to a $2500 Ed Brown Kobra Carry.

I like the Colt Combat Carry Officers aka CCO which is
the Officer's Frame and the 4.25" Commander leng. SLide/Bbl.
for the reliability/ballistics and the shorter grip for CCW.

S&W just introduced their version the Compact ES
Stainless slide, and Scandium frame with the Novak
sights etc.

Sig's CCO vriants include 3 steel framed versions and
the alloy framed C3 with night sights.

If you go with a standard grip height, Commander
the Dan Wesson CBOB would be hard to beat

Don't get a Kimber they explode at the mere mention of a Springfield or Dan Wesson. Seriously, if you review the "What 1911" threads you will see this seems to be what most people who have probably never shot a Kimber may tell you. I love mine, I also enjoy my Springfield Loaded as well though. Just thought I would get that in before the "MIMber" crap began to flow.
