I shoot mostly pistol and was wondering where most people purchase their bullets. Any links? Information? Favorite weights / caliber? Lead vs. jacketed?Let's hear em'

MidwayUSA

Midway has a pretty good selection OK pricing and usually has in stock what they advertise. If you have a Sportsmans Warehouse near you go shop there. Can't order from them online as of yet, but they try to keep the shelves stocked.

WARNING: When you start ordering bullets online, your UPS guy ain't going to like you, especially when you order in large quantities.

boolets

I like car knocker's supplier best, but those of us who have to have them shipped in, then I recommend www.northeastbullet.com

For 1000 of the 200gr RNFP in 45LC, $46 delivered to your front door. 38/9mm/40sw are all cheaper than that.

I shoot mostly 40 S&W out of a glock or H&K. Keep the velosity below 1200 fps, so I like to use plated bullets. I don't shoot cast bullets out of either pistol although I know some people that do without any ill effects. If you watch for specials Midway is the cheapest (assuming you're like me and don't buy more than 1000 or 2000 at a time otherwise there are other alternatives for reloaders that buy in bulk). However, buying direct from Berry is your best bet when Midway doesn't have a sale on Rainiers.

Powder Valley has Zero jacketed bullets for a good price. Even better, they charge reasonable shipping prices, AND THEY KNOW HOW TO PACKAGE THE BULLETS, so you get them all instead of a ripped and battered cardboard box that leaks bullets (like I have received from Midway and Cabelas in the past).

I can't say enough good things about Powder Valley. If you want lead or cheaper bullets, I can also recommend Precision Bullets.

Midway USA. Great outfit. That's where I get the stuff I can't find at Sportsman's Warehouse down the street. 303 brass can be hard to come by locally.
SW has the 174gr Hornady FMJ/BT .3105 and the Hornday 150gr SP .312 bullets I use in the Enfield, whilst the Remington 9mm 115gr JHP 500 bulk I get from Midway, as SW doesn't carry bulk in anything but cast.

Over many years I've used cast bullets from a variety of casters. I have recently tried Meister Bullets and have been happy with their stuff. I reload using cast bullets for .38 Spec., .357 Mag, .41 Mag, and .45 ACP. I don't worrry about leading until I get past about 1300 fps with the .41 mag. Even then I don't worry - I have a Lewis Lead Remover that strips the lead out RIGHT NOW.

My personal choice.........

Folks, I've tried quiet a few different sources jacketed and cast. My friend Bill at Black Jack Hill, www.blackjackhill.com has quite a comprehensive selection.

Bill carries handgun calibers, rifle calibers, and also black powder projectiles.

He's one of many providers to the Cowboy Action Shooter Society.

Again, check his products and prices at www.blackjackhill.com

It Depends

Yeah, I know, that's twice in two days I started with that answer. I don't like it either. :barf:

The folks at www.powdervalleyinc.com are good, and they're very friendly. I did have a box split open from them as well as from other shippers, so I think that's an industry problem when you're dealing with fifty pounds of lead. Prices are good, though choices are limited.

Midwayusa.com has good prices, great availability. You can check stock status online and they run specials. Widener's has very good prices and you can also check online there. Widener's more often has sales on surp bullets if that's what you're looking for, say, for a thousand czech .22 55grain or something. Cast bullets only, www.trinityarms.com is good, a small shop, but again you can check to see what's in stock and they pay shipping!

Those are my main choices. I have dealt with patsreloading.com for milsurp bullets, and they, too have good prices.

Now you have my answers and you gotta do your shopping - good luck! :)

I just bought 1000 9 mm copper-plated RN DS from Berry for $50.49+about $3.70 for lead/copper surcharge, which they add, with FREE shipping. Same deal for 1000 230 gr .45 copper-plated RN DS, total was $86.40, FREE shipping.

I am not a competition/high accuracy demand shooter. My wife and I shoot for fun and relaxation and try to do the best we can with our novice ability. So I think these are okay. The price seems right. And, they ship pronto!!

I'll buy that--my bad. But whatever it is, these are a pretty good deal. The only better one I've seen lately is from the suspect guys at National Bullet Co. If you can get the stuff from them.

Years Ago™ I bought a lot from them when I still lived in Kentucky and never had any problems. This was before anyone had ever heard of plated bullets.

This past June I honchoed a group buy for several friends during one of their 30% off/free shipping sales.

After three weeks had passed I sent them an e'mail.
I waited a week and received no reply so I started an inquiry.

A few days later I finally received an e'mail;

[email protected] to me Jul 22

-- do not edit --

Your order will be shipped this coming week. We were out of a couple items that you ordered.
Sorry for the delay

Now that was July 22 and I haven't heard another peep from them!

Now I have 4 guys breathing down my neck looking for several thousand bullets and 1050 rounds of loaded ammo.
Well actually a little less now since I had to load 500 rounds of .38 JHP and give up my remaining stash of 1000 .410" SWC to appease one of them.

A really nice part of their site is the Track Your Order "feature".
You type in the last 8 digits of you 12 digit order number and it tells you all about your order.

EXCEPT THAT IT TAKES YOU TO THE BOOGER-FLICKING UPS TRACKING SITE!
And you know what, since there IS no tracking number for a shipment that doesn't exist IT'S BOOGER-FLICKING USELESS!
:cuss:

I had good luck with this company in the past and I had recently heard good things about them so I didn't ask around to see if there had been any recent problems.

:banghead:
