Best wood grips for a SW 586?

I have a nice SW 586...
I like the factory grips, but im really wanting to get something with some finger grooves and really LOVE the Hogue fingergroove/checkered striped cap grips, but the $119 pricetag on the website is a little high...
can they be had cheaper from dealers?

Also i see hogue offers a cylinder release extension.... anyone ever tried this?

You can try Ebay.
You may snag a set for $40-$60.
The only thing I don't see a lot of is the stripe capped ones.
What size barrel are you using and is it a square butt or round butt gun ?
I find that the stipe capped Hogues look huge on the short barreled guns if you have a square butt or use the round to square conversion grips.

The ones that fit your hand are the best ones.

I love some of the high end wood grips that I have, but when it comes to shooting the most accurate I have to go with the Hogue rubbers.

I say, It's wood for show and tell, but rubber for shooting.

Can't agree there Bob, I see it the opposite way. Wood slides ever so slightly against the skin and lessens the recoil for me. Rubber sticks to the skin.

IMO rubber just doesnt belong on a blued SW revolver....
maybe some tactical schmactical thing, but not a purdy shiny blue gun

A couple people mentioned wood for show and rubber for shooting, personally I don't agree. Maybe I haven't tried them all, but the rubber grips I've tried are all too skinny for my hands.

David S, I know you liked the hogues , but I would suggest looking at Kim Ahrends stuff for the highest quality at the most reasonable price.

Or what I have on all my smiths are Badger Customs from http://www.badgercustomgrips.com/ They work for me, but the grooves don't always fit everyone's hands. The Ahrends are a more standard 'fit everybody' fit.

If you're going to shoot a lot of .357 magnums, then I'd vote with the folks who recommend rubber. If mostly .38 Specials, then I agree that wood is the way to go so as to add that extra eye appeal.

I second the motion for the Ahrends. Eventually, every one of my revolvers will wear Ahrends finger groove grips.

And a 586 is not going to beat you to death with .357 loads unless you happen to be particularly recoil-susceptible or arthritic. Otherwise, don't worry about it.

I vote for the pachemeyrs for a hand filling comfortable grip. but they are not near as sexy as some nice wood.
