Hmmm...Kerry's been in the Senate long enough...what were his votes on the AWB in 1994 and the attempt to rescind it a year or two later? How about SB 659?

Why no listing for Lieberman? And same questions as Kerry.

Oh, and IIRC, Dean supports renewing the AWB.

Several of those have flipped on the issue now... for example Lizzy Dole has "seen the light" after needing NRA endorsement to win her Senate seat and renounced her previous remarks on assault weapons.

Also, John McCain received about $2 million from Andrew McKelvey (who founded Americans For Gun Safety with their first and singular goal being background checks at gun shows) and has since decided that background checks at gun shows are an absolute must-have.

Like most such conversions, they may be less-than-sincere; but still worth noting.

Actually, Lone, the updated site does mention this, as follows:

Assault weapon OK; waiting period not OK. (Apr 1999)

Interestingly, this bipartisan site goes on to add:

If the NRA could pick a candidate, it would undoubtedly be George W. Bush. He has been a strong ally of the organization in Texas. Recent attempts to distance himself are assumed to be merely tactical. Bush follows the standard gun-owner’s line: he wants tougher penalties against gun-toting criminals, but no more regulations for worthy citizens with a pistol by the bed.
