Can someone recommend me a good chronograph?

I've been shooting for a long time, but I've never used a chronograph. I'm looking to buy one for work. It needs to hold up to a good bit of use, but I don't want to spend a ton of money. What has worked for you guys?

The Beta Chrony can be had for around $100. Mine is a 1990s Oeler (spelling?).

there is a cool new magnetospeed (sp?) chrony out there that attaches to your barrel instead of shooting over it. it also doesn't require light/shadow to operate.

haven't tried it yet but it's getting good reviews

I've been using a Competition Electronics Pro Chrono Digital. It does 9 strings of 99 shots + stats, uses one piece rods for the sky screens, and has the option of a PC connection. No complaints to date. I also got the USB link for connection to a laptop/PC, which makes printing & record keeping pretty easy.

The connecting cable is 20', so you can control the chrono via laptop at the range + use the laptop screen for last shot velocity display. Alternatively you can just bring the chrono back & dump to a PC afterwards for printing/archiving.

I purchased them at Brownell's & with the LE discount the package w/shipping was less than $150.

CE will repair/replace one of their current production chrono, regardless of condition for no more than 1/2 of the current MSRP.

I have had a F-1 Shooting Chrony for about 10 yrs. Seems to do a good job. Can be had for less than $100 Only thing is it does not like muzzle blast from anything. You need to have the muzzle about 4 feet back from diffusers.

PACT MKIV Timer with chono has worked well for me for years.Started with an original Chrony when they first came out.It is a little cranky(lighting) but just as accurate as the PACT.
