Century Arms...???...Good, Bad, UGLY?

Anyone ever hear of Century Arms? How about Atlantic Firearms? See post below. I have not checked out any other "deals" on their sight, this was sent to me from a friend. Would love to have an HK91, but not a cheap, dangerous knock off!

Heard some not-great things about the Century CETME's. They are parts kit guns put together in the USA, so remember most the important bits are surplus.

Should be noted thay aren't an HK, though they do share the roller-delayed locking system. They don't have the excellent HK diopter sights, and many aftermarket bits like stocks may have to be modified or may not fit at all. Sometimes they work okay with G3 mags, sometimes they don't.

But for the price of a decent AK-type rifle, it may be worth picking one up and hoping you get a good one (that's the biggest complaint I've heard with Century guns, their quality is hit or miss).

FWIW, I had a Century L1A1 a few years back. It was a solid rifle, never gave me any trouble, and was reliable with some pretty questionable surplus ammo that gave my friends' autorifles fits. That's the only one I've ever shot.

I hear their WASR-10 and other AK type rifles are really good. A buddy of mine has a CETME, and it's a good rifle, accurate, reliable, etc. However, to my knowledge, their C93 (HK33 variant) is made from bottom-of-the-barrel parts and are just piles of junk.

Some rifles built by Century have questionable quality levels but Atlantic Firearms is a great outfit to deal with and well help you out if you have any problems with a product they sell.

Century is an importer and assembler. Probably the most prolific supplier of military surplus and military style firearms of all kinds in the country.

They have sold many perfectly servicable guns and have also put out a few clunkers. Buying a CAI gun is a roll of the dice, but your odds of getting a decent one seem pretty favorable.

If I wanted a Century-made gun, I'd go through Atlantic to get it. If it isn't right, they'll help make it right.

my cousin bought a used cetme for around $350 last year. the gun functioned well, we have a scope mount on it that keeps sliding so couldn't tell you much about the accuracy but the performance was flawless. awaiting new mount. iron sights are rough and finish on this one is pretty good. i've seen really bad ones on different cetmes. i too personally own the wasr10 from cia and it's my favorite. finish is a little rough but performs like a champ. the cetme is a beautiful gun, only complaint is it's a bit on the heavy side. try to find a used one for cheap like we did.

Needing information...

I was needing some information...
I have a G3 sporter from Century International Arms, and its serial number is G27266. The rifle shoots fine, no real problems, other than when I first got the rifle it had a burr on the upper part of the bolt carrier. This lead to a FTF, but took a peice of emory cloth to it and filed down the burr. With that said, it has not had any more FTF, and shoots very accurate. I have notice that the bolthead does not have any sharp edges on the side of it, and was wondering if maybe someone could verify if I had a gound bolthead or not? Any information will be greatly appreciated.

Trigga. I was looking closely at your rifle and I did not notice the "saddle" in front of the rear sight which holds the scope mount so that it doesn't slide fore and aft. On the G3 there is a piece welded on that sort of cradles a corresponding piece on the scope mount that performs this function.



Here is a photo. Note the "notch" looking thing in front of the rear sight, and above the rearmost claw mount "pad." Does your CETME have such a fitment? If it does not, I do not believe you will be able to successfully mount a scope and keep it from sliding.

My M-44 Mosin-Nagant is a great rifle. The CETME that I ahhhh 'leased' for 18 months...not goinmg down that road again. I spent 17-1/2 months out oy my inventory

Maadi AK from Century Arms

I have a Maadi AK from them... pretty decent rifle, cycled about 40 or so rounds of Wolf through it with no difficulty.

I bought a Century Arms AK74 clone. The one for $350 shipped

The construction is nice on it. The receiver wasn't all scratched up. No mag wobble. The action cycles smooth and doesn't hang when the bolt rides on top of the hammer. The gun shoots nice, does not keyhole, and had no issues cycling rounds

I'd recommend it to anyone

I trust Atlantic Firearms. They stand behind the products they sell, and strive for customer satisfaction. I have bought from them in the past, and intend to do so again when the money situation improves.

I generally do not trust Century Arms for anything they (or their subcontractors) assemble. Both I and several of my friends have just had too many problems with their products over time.

Bottom line though, if you order from Atlantic Firearms, and you get a clunker from Century, I am pretty confident that Atlantic will do the extra mile to make it right...

I would like to say that I took my rifle to a competent gunsmith, looked the bolt head over, and measured it to be an unground bolt head. We did notices that I did not have any bolt gap, so had to buy, and install +sized rollers. So, I guess, I can say that I got one of the lucky Century Arms stuff that only required me to do a little work on the rifle to get it back into factory specifications.
