Cheapest way to convert an AK

What is the cheapest way to be in compliance with Sec. 922(R) regarding an AK?
I'm asking because a friend of mine has a MAK90 (post-ban) and the thumbhole stock is just not working for him. He wants to put the AK Strikeforce package on it.
So what are the cheapest US made parts he can buy for replacement.

You need 10 or less foreign parts.

US Fire control group = 3, Single hook or double hook Tapco should do that for you.

US Buttstock = 1
US Pistol grip = 1
US upper and lower handguard = 1

Go even further if you want...

US gas piston = 1
Us muzzle device = 1

Strike force only = 3 parts, do that and get a tapco fire control group and call it done.

I put a U.S. side-folding stock on my SAR-1 about five years ago for about $50. I used the original stock screw rather than the little ones that came with the kit, and did the work, what there was of it, myself.

Actually, the cheapest way is normally: US-made FCG, US-made or modified magazines. A US-made stock set is often prohibitively expensive, often around $200. US-made magazines are typically $30 to $40. How many mags can you now afford for the price of that stock set?

Well the strikeforce sells for about $100. Commie mags cost about $12 so I think the new stock set is cheaper.

Double hook trigger snags hammer on both sides (port and starboard), single has one engagement suface.
Single hook is the only thing I've ever installed in any of my AK's. Receiver needs to have a small relief on both sides of trigger for the double hook. Easy enough to put there if you insist on a double hook.

I put US Made Hand Guards/Pistol Grip, and a TAPCO G2 Double hook FCG on my MAK90 to make it compliant.

Hand Guards/Pistol Grip (2 Parts): $35 Used
TAPCO G2 (3 Parts): $28
I also had a Romanian Folding stock.

I put one on my MAK90 because thats what came out of it. Not sure if a single hook will work in a MAK so I just went with what I knew would work.

The double hook trigger was used in the original AK47, with two hooks as a backup thing, so that if one broke the mechanism would still work. When the Russians updated the rifle to the AKM, they had found that the trigger hooks virtually never broke, so they changed it to a single hook design to save a bit on manufacturing costs.

If you are looking to put one or the other in a rifle, first flip it over and look at the hole in the receiver where the trigger comes through. It will be rectangular, with either one or two U-shaped cutouts at the front corners. If there's only one cutout, you have to use a single hook trigger. If it has two, then you can take your pick of trigger types.

US Pistol grip (1)
US Slant brake (1)
US G2 Trigger Group (3)
US Magazine follower (1)

Total: 6 USA parts
