Buddy has a Chinese (I think that's the Asian country that it's from) M44 Mosin. Dated 1954. Still has the bayonet and cleaning rod, bit rough, no import marks.

Are these rare? Any idea of value?

I know tons of the Russians have come in lately but I have never seen an Asian one.

Thanks for any info!

not rare, but not as common. value is higher than the current imports from russia/eastern europe, but not crazy. Anywhere from 100 to maybe 300 depending on condition and if someone wants it. To most people it's just another Mosin (except to us mosin addicts and then it is crack in gun form :scrutiny: ) :neener:

Come on, we need pictures!

If I ever came across one for a good price I would likely pick one up, I didn't even know that some had seeped into the country from the East.

Thanks for the info guys!

I should be able to get it for $100 or so, guy just wants to get out of it since he bought it in a package deal.

If there are still cries for pics I'll beam some to anyone who is interested. I know the Mosin lure can be strong :D

I'm hoping I can find some info that supports it's a bring back from Vietnam, doubt I'll ever be able to prove it though.

Thanks again,

Ton's of Chinese Type 54 rifles(Russian M-44 copy) were imported in the late 1980's till the ban on imports of Chinese firearms in 1994. They were in the same price range as the M-44 are going for now days $39-$79 depending on condition. I see Type 54's in unissued condition turn up at gun shows and pawn shops quite often in the $100-$125 range. While the ones "a bit rough" go for $50-$75. So without capture papers $100 is really kind of high as without them the rifle carries no added value over a import marked one.
Make sure to check the barrel really good even under the bayonet as the import markings were really small 1/16" high letters
