Does anyone know if Colt had issued their Detective .38 spl in a lightweight alloy?

I was picking up some running shoes and stopped by a pawnshop just to take a quick looksee at the case. They had what appeared to be a colt detective special with a matte finish that seemed so light that it had to be alloy? I didn't get to feel the trigger because the clerk wouldn't remove the trigger lock. Appeared to be in 98% condition for $319.99.

Does anyone know anything good or bad about this version of the Detective Special? I have always wanted a a DS.

A lightweight "D" frame Colt is a Cobra or Agent. Same action as Dick Special. In a dull finish you probably saw one of the re-release economy model Agents of the late 1970s or '80s. $320 is pretty close to book value.

I had one called the Agent

Made in the early 80's, bought it in '83.
What cludge! I was raised on stories of the Detective Special and thought I was getting a great gun..
With three months of fairly light shooting...less that 200 rounds..the timing went haywire and it refused to work.
Sent it in to get fixed.......with in a month it started acting up again.
No more than 300 rounds fired total.
A gentleman of my acquaintence loved Colt revolvers and said he'd take it and fix it. I sold it too him.
A year later when I crossed his path again...he said it was a piece of cra*! And had given him nothing but problems.
I really have not used many Colt DA revolvers since...kinda soured me. No a major wheelgunner anyway. But I do like their 1911's and have quite a few!!
I am sure it was just a lemon(everyone gets at least one), and that most worked fine.
Just sharing an experience!

Agent (green aluminum gun)

My friend has one and wanted to sell it. I didn't like aluminum and declined. He still has it to this day.

They're great little carry guns if you like the .38 special round, but I doubt they were ever intended to be shot a great deal. If I find one at a great price in tip-top condition, I'll buy it, but it'll be a safe queen, not a shooter.

Hello. I found this older Colt Agent like new and just like to have it! I shoot it a little now and again. On the other hand, a friend of mine carries one pretty regularly.

Best.

Not Trying To Steal The Thread, But-

Greeting's All-

Hey Steve ole' bud, I ain't trying to rush you
off anytime soon; but how about leaving that fine
looking old Colt Agent for me in your Last Will And
Testament?

Just kidding, of course! But that sure is one very
nice looking Agent model. You rarely see them in
my neck of the woods anymore!

Best Wishes,
