I have been carrying an issued Sig 229 .40 cal...which I loved so much I bought two of them. My off duty carry has gone through a metamorphasis to a Springfield XD Subcompact 9mm.....to which my thinking was..."man I hate ALWAYS having to carry a gun" or "is this thing bulging when not jabbing my love handles?" . Now I can without feeling like it's buggin me. How about you guys?

Duty gun is issued Glock 23. I generally carry it off duty too. My 2nd is a S&W 649 (.38 Spl) which I carry in an ankle rig on duty. It goes with me everywhere on and off duty. Those are my 2 primary carry guns.
In the summer when nothing else will conceal well off duty I'll sometimes carry a PPK/s. Others I may grab off duty are 459, 645, or a 2.5" Mod 19. There are others I'll carry off duty once in a blue moon but it will be because I just want to get them out so they can get some fresh air.

for on-duty, i'm now carrying a departmental issued sig 226R .40...but i usually switch back and forth between a sig 220 or a beretta 96. i've carried both the 220 and 96 while off-duty with pretty good comfort which doesn't extend to the 226.

my usual off-duty carry is a smith 642 (also serves as a BUG) or a glock 19 depending on the situation i'm in. a hk p7 psp is my "dress up" carry. with winter here, i've been breaking in a sig 228

on duty weapon is hk usp.45f. I am able to carry it off duty easier now that the temps are cooler. I have a safariland pancake holster and their black 1.5 inch belt, both in safarilaminate.

the big .45 is actually very easy to conceal under a black windbreaker or a light columbia canvas jacket. the key is to get a jacket with a "boxy" waist line.

by the way, not having love handles makes it much easier to get a big pistol close to the body and concealed.

waiting impatiently to actually see an hk p2000sk in person for off duty.

small smith revolver is looking better and better every day that hk drags its feet getting the p2000sk to market in sufficient quantity.

Glock 23

Glock 23 both on and off duty. If it used to defend myself they get the Dept. Gun not mine.

On And Off Duty

When I was a fed leo, and working stateside assignments, I carried my issue Glock 17, with a Smith mod 60 for backup.

When I was on assignment in Panama for 4 years, I carried a stainless Colt Combat Commander in .45acp, and a stainless Colt Officer's ACP, also in .45acp. The Panamanian jungle could rust titanium!

I have been retired for 7 years now,at the ripe old age of 37, and I am a staffing manager for a nursing company.

They offered me a desk job in the People's Rebublik Of California, or a pension...I took the pension and limped off into the sunset! :neener:

I was hurt in the line of duty...no, I wasn't shot, I broke both knees in a crash in Panama. I have a civilian CCW and now, as I did then, carry everywhere I go.

These days I carry a Glock 22 as a primary, and often a Glock 27 or another small frame auto for a BUG. I like the Glock/Glock combo...same ammo, same manual of arms, and darn it...they work!

If I am feeling nostalgic...I carry my Colt combo, or even a real slick 3" Smith Model 65.

The point is...carry your gun, and carry a BUG.

I always carry strong side in a pancake holster of my own design and manufacture, and the BUG is on the ankle.

'Nuff said.

In another life:

Duty: Smith & Wesson 4-inch Model 15. Smooth trigger, tack driver.

Off Duty: This was an evolution, so in order,

1. AMT .380 Backup. A singularly unreliable POS.
2. 1911 clone in .380. Functioned just fine, not big enough.
3. Charter Arms Bulldog .44 spl revo. Heavy recoil, not enough capacity, bad rep. for falling apart.
4. Colt LtWt Commander. I finally got something worthwhile.

Hey, we all learn eventually. ;)

On duty: SW 610 4" 10mm
Off duty: Glock 17
Back up on and off: Keltec P32

Why?
The 10mm is my favorite round and the SW is the most reliable handgun that shoots it. G17 off duty because of the capacity since I don't carry spare mags and the easing shooting 9mm. P32 nice shooting, reliable and light weight.

I have to carry my issued P220R Sig .45acp on the road. Inside, I carry a P232 or P220R. Off-Duty, I carry a G-26 mostly, with a 442 or p-32 for hot weather.

On Duty: Sig 220, Safariland Model 200 Top Gun Holster
Off Duty: Wilson CQB

On duty Sig 228.

Off duty Sig 228.

Why? Because agency policy dictates that is what we will carry. Lucky for me it's a great gun, that I shoot well.

On and off- a 4506 or an SW99.

I've carried a bunch of different guns for off duty over the years, said the heck with it and just carry something that the department issued.

Colt Gunsite Pistol for duty. Colt Aldis customized Lightweight Commander or Colt standard stock Officer's Model for off-duty. All are .45. I carried an H & K P7M8 for a while due to a broken hand for the lighter recoil. I tried Glock's but I could never get comfortable with the grip and I really had to work hard to master the trigger. I feel the Colt is safer to carry (I'm not anti-Glock, It's just my personal opinion) and much easier to shoot well. During hot weather and sometimes while traveling, I will digress to a Smith 342 or a reliable stainless PPK in my right front pocket. One of these is also in my pocket while on duty as a BUG.

I miss my wheelguns. For the first 10 or more years of my career I carried a Model 66 and later 686 Smiths. I did the best handgun shooting of my life with them. We shot the old FBI Tactical Revolver Course starting at 50 yards and I scored "possible" many times. The distances were much longer but the times were very generous. Most training in those days was done with .38 wadcutter target loads. Shooting full house .357 loads was pretty punishing and I went to the Colt.45 after my department brought Chuck Taylor up for training in 1984. The .45 was very pleasant to shoot after shooting the course with full power .357. Been a .45 Colt guy ever since. My only gripe is that when somebody used to ask me why I carried a Colt .45 I could answer "because they don't make a Colt .46." The new .50 caliber 1911s have ruined that line for me.

In my previous capacity as an LEO...

On duty: Glock 19, departmental issue
Off duty: Glock 27, personally owned

At work, I have to carry the issue Glock 35.
Off duty depends on what I'm doing. Around the house and around town, picking up groceries, getting gas, a Ruger SP-101 or a 642 (that is also my back up at work)
Going to the mall, going into metro areas in the evening: HK P7 M8 or (trying out and transitioning slowly) a Glock 23 with the Comenelli safety installed. I personally prefer a gun with a safety or a long trigger pull for off duty, an off duty holster is generally not as not as secure, I have kids, if it fall out while I'm playing with the kids, I prefer something thats a little harder to make go bang than a stock Glock. (Please don't bother with the arguments about Glocks being safe, yes they are, I agree with everything you say, yes the safety is between my ears etc etc. I won't bother responding)

Walking in the woods or when I just feel like it, a classic old Mod. 58 .41 Mag.
