Just purchased one of these recently and have not fired it yet. It is the Stoeger version manufactured in Turkey and is a mirror image of the Beretta. Anyone have experience with the Cougar and what are your thoughts?

Stoeger Cougar 8000 was my first non-.22 handgun, and I have nothing but good to say about it. That said, I ended up trading it for an M&P9, but only because I didn't want the double to single action trigger pull change - absolutely nothing wrong with the gun at all, and a great price to boot. Enjoy yours!

Great Gun!!...

I love it!... Have had mine over a year, 1000+rnds in, ZERO PROBLEMS. Easy take-down, low-maintenance, big-gun/all-metal feel, very accurate (polygonal barrel) and a pleasure to shoot.

I picked up a Stoger Cougar last December in 9mm and have not had a single problem. I have put 800 rounds down range, many as fast as I could pull the trigger, again no problems. I purchased 3 extra mags from the Beretta on line web store for less than 20 bucks each , they fit both Stoger or Beretta cougar. A fine pistol for the price and a pleasure to shoot, enjoy!:)

Sold my Beretta 9mm Cougar two weeks ago. $400 with < 1000 rounds.

Didn't like the little 'blade' trigger and the damn thing would always shoot low and to the right.

Bought a Sig P229...dead on balls accurate.

Great guns.

There's a ton of threads on Cougars, you should do a search. You'll probably find more than you want to read.

"Dead on balls" accurate, huh?

Must be an industry term.:D

Back on topic, I have a Stoeger Cougar 8000 (the 9mm) and it's been flawless thus far. I've only put 350 rounds through, but I'm pretty confident in its ability. It isn't the best pistol I have and it isn't the worst, but for the money it's hard to beat the Cougar these days for a NIB purchase. One of the best values out there in a new handgun.

Have both 9mm & .40 S&W. Excellent guns. Would not part with either.

I have the Beretta version in 9mm and love it. Someone mentioned above that there have been a lot of similar posts to this one, and I've probably written on all of the latest ones, talking up the Cougar. Very accurate, comfortable to shoot (great ergonomics) and beautifully designed. I will probably eventually trade it though...for the Inox (stainless) version :) Who knows, maybe I'll keep this one and have both of them. I think for the price, it is one of the best handguns out there.
