Beautiful side folder, but it needs a beauty mark just to the rear or the ejection port, mine is scarred for life. Electrical tape can prevent or postpone the marks left by the shells pinging off the receiver... but why.

Yeah there are actually some beauty marks there from the first time I took it out but you can't really see them in the pics. I was a little agitated by them at first but I agree, it does show the love.

I wonder if a refrigerator magnet (blank or black in color) cut out to conform to the rear of the ejection port would prevent the brass from scratching up the surface?

you took those pics??:scrutiny:

What are you, some professional photog or something?:scrutiny:

Make sure you have a steady tripod... don't try holding the camera, it won't work...

The Sig 556 is last on my list of battle rifles I'd like to pick up. I already have an M1A and a PTR-91. That does me in .308 so I'd just like one 5.56 and the Sig is it. I'm a huge fan of Sig Sauer handguns and own a bunch of them. The Sig556 would compliment my collection quite well. Sadly they are hard to find at a reasonable price here in CA.

I got me a several hundred dollar bogen manfrotto tripod.

I majored in photography and graphic design in college but lately its been more of a hobby than a profession.

I'll buy that. Those pics were pretty good. Like I said, I'll try and learn me a new trick now that I've seen that.

Congrats. I know why you like this rifle. I loooove mine. I would swap out the 556 hand guards for the 551s if possible. You will love your rifle twice as much after you do. It solves the front-heavy feel and it handles like a charm after that.

I bought Magpul P-Mags for mine. The trigger is the best of any semi-auto that I own, as you alluded to. This rifle shoots and cycles like a dream. I just wish Sig would let us buy a few extra parts like an extractor and firing pin, but as far as I know, they won't release them to us.

I put a Sightron SII Big Sky 1.25x5-20mm scope on mine to take advatnage of the 5x when necessary. It's a great scope for the money, the same as a Leupold Vari-X-III. I just wish I had illuminated optics though. I also now have a Blue Fore Gear - Vickers Combat Applications Sling which is the bee's knees on a carbine.

Very nice!

That's what I would like mine to look like eventually, although I'm going to stick with the aimpoint for now.

I definitely plan to buy the 551 handguard for it, if fact that's next on my list of things to buy, I love the more traditional look. I also really like the Magpul stock and will replace that eventually as well.

Thanks :)

The Magpul stock makes a minimal amount of difference, honestly. It is mostly cosmetic. The Sig stock rattles a little more, but otherwise they are functionally the same to me. The 551 hand guards make all the difference in the world though. It is almost a completely different rifle (handling-wise) after the 551 hand guards.

Got the new 551 Handguards!

You were absolutely right geojap, what a difference it makes to the ergonomics of the rifle and its not nearly as front heavy! I couldn't be happier with the way it looks and feels now.

Here's an updated pic....

Congratz, I'm glad you like it NWilliams, I know I liked my rifle much more after I got the 551 handguards. It really makes you wonder why Sig didn't put something like the original 551 handguards on the rifle in the first place. Did they actually shoot the 556 with both hand guards beforehand? One feels like a fat little piglet and the other points and handles very easily.

Yeah they are pretty costly. I Started paying for mine back in the summer of '08 when I asked my local shop to order me one. By the time it finally arrived in November I had most of it paid off so it wasn't so painful on the wallet. Total with taxes and everything it came out to just over $1500. I'm still planing on putting the Magpul stock on it but haven't gotten to it yet.

Yeah locally they are going for 1700-1800 with taxes. So i wont be getting one for a little. This stupid Obama c*** is ridiculous. I hope this guy knows what he's doing

Congrats! I'm nuts about my 556. And you're right - one of the smoothest trigger configs around. I've got an Eotech on mine and a Magpul collapsible. Also, as another poster pointed out, the P-Mags are definitely the way to go. For me, this was an extremely satisfying purchase. A little painful wallet-wise, but satisfying. :D

nwilliams, your photos are awesome. Fnforums has a monthly photo contest, you might want to submit something. I don't know if there is a prize or anything but bragging rights would suffice. Nice rifle, nice photography, well done.

Nice! They had two of them at the local Sportsman's Warehouse last week and i was really shocked as they had been out of everything black for months now.

They were priced at $1500....I just bought an AR15 in October so i had to pass but they sure were purty....i was in there yesterday and they were both gone.
